Certified Chemical Dependency Specialist OAFSP

The Chemical Dependency Counselor will function as part of the team to coordinate and provide mental health evaluation and case management to clients who have substance abuse problems. The Chemical Dependency counselor’s role is to provide pro-active supports in the community to assist clients in staying sober.


Provide substance abuse counseling and treatment to dually diagnosed older adult clients.

Train staff and students about substance abuse issues and treatment interventions.

Transport client to and from 12 step meetings and other referrals as needed.

Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Attend all scheduled staff meetings in order to assist in assessing clients’ needs, strengths, resources and provide feedback regarding treatment planning.

Complete all chart documentation, reports, coordinated service plans, coordination plans, needs assessments, correspondence within the time frame required and within the guidelines set forth by the agency and Department of Mental Health and Medicare.

Provide psycho-educational groups/classes on substance abuse issues and relapse prevention in community settings and on-site of the program.

Utilize a harm reduction model and motivational interviewing approach, and be knowledgeable about the risks of substance abuse in older adults, including alcohol, pain medications and other drugs.


Certification as an Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Counselor. Please provide your PDF resume.

Minimum of 3-year experience in a mental health setting.

Must act in accordance with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and related state law confidentiality requirements. Must successfully complete the Center’s HIPAA training, pass the HIPAA test, and receive the Certification of Compliance.

Must have good driving record and be insurable by Center’s insurance company.
