SCOPE OF POSITION
The Assistant Manager, Consumer Underwriting will be responsible for working with members, credit union staff, as well as other underwriters to complete all underwriting activities for a consumer loan application. This position will also be responsible for reviewing Consumer loan applications for accuracy and completeness.
The Assistant Manager, Consumer Underwriting will support and coach the Consumer Underwriting team to accurately collect and review information contained on applications to provide an accurate loan decision. The Assistant manager will effectively provide prompt, accurate, and timely proactive support to help minimize errors while providing constructive feedback. This role is to assist and work collaboratively with other underwriters to work a pipeline based on volume and business need while striving to adhere to and support the agreed upon SLAs between S3 and the partner credit unions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Coordinate/Communicate with Management regularly to ensure the pipeline and workflow of requests are functioning efficiently.
• Review consumer loan applications received via all channels to ensure completion of all required data for a decision.
• Works directly with and assists in training and developing the underwriting skills of the Consumer Loan Underwriter for both Direct and Indirect loan applications.
• Support partner and S3 initiatives in projects and testing.
• Completes and analyzes Quality Control (QC) reporting to evaluate data in order to identify trends or opportunities for coaching and training to minimize member and partner impacts.
• Facilitates and provides coaching as needed to eliminate knowledge gaps, gain efficiencies, and streamline the process while supporting team in adjusting decisioning approach as partners evaluate risk tolerance
• Second review all necessary documents from the member, requested by an Underwriter, to make a solid decision.
• Respond to member inquiries, escalations and questions related to the application decision in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
• Maintain, monitor, and support service levels for all underwriting turn-times as set forth by management
• Maintain, monitor, and support service levels for all inbound calls and turn-times as set forth by management
• Work in collaboration and partnership with other team members
• Additional job-related projects as assigned by management
QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES
• Associate degree or equivalent work experience
• 5 years of experience underwriting consumer loans preferred, including understanding underwriting guidelines, recognizing cycle time, following policies and concepts associated with the underwriting approach
• Strong knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to the consumer lending industry (i.e.: ECOA, etc.)
• Candidate must be highly organized and able to handle a fast-paced environment
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary
• Effectively able to communicate within all levels of the organization and within the team
• Excellent customer service skills with strong attention to detail
• Time Management skills and the ability to prioritize workload based on department SLA’s, partner expectations and member needs
• Must be highly articulate and enthusiastic
• Strong analytical skills required with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to work flexible hours or take on last minute schedule changes as needed
• Ability to multi-task in other areas of the unit
• Aptitude to work independently as well as part of a team and ability to collaborate with others
• Positive attitude and team-oriented
• Ability to function in a changing environment
