Job Description

Rupee Bar is a modern American restaurant inspired by Sri Lankan and South Indian cuisine. We are a small, high energy, fast paced restaurant that is James Beard nominated and awarded.

What we are looking for:

  • A motivated, passionate individual to work with our close knit team as well as contribute to the Rupee vision with experience and enthusiasm.
  • Previous management experience and great communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Work the line and provide continuous education for the BOH and FOH staff
  • Be able to set goals for yourself and others to work towards
  • Ability to work long hours with open availability
  • Baking/pastry experience is a bonus!

Sous chef responsibilities:

  • Daily evaluation of restaurant prep and service. Coordination of timely food production and time management and daily list making and completion

  • Ensure plates are up to standard; settling for no less than best

  • Help meet budget in food prep and labor costs

  • Responsible for communicating with management and employees

  • Daily cleanliness of the kitchen; cleaning lists are finished everyday and cleaning is taken above and beyond everyday.

  • Responsible for training and helping through the interview process and stages

  • Responsible for scheduling and is available to fill schedule when employees call out or need coverage

  • Help conduct performance reviews every 6 months

  • Inspire teamwork and leadership; appraising performance, rewarding and coaching employees and addressing complaints and resolving problems with the chef

  • Actively supports the entire team, recognizes how best to coach individuals

  • Humble, transparent and supportive yet know how to take control and best handle situations that may arise.

  • Responsible for supporting all parts of the kitchen and taking on responsibility in the chef s absence.

  • Bring a unique addition to the kitchen and to the menu to make the restaurant stand out and make a fun place for everyone to work in.

  • Placing orders on a nightly basis.

  • Constant conversations with new menu changes, farms and what they have available.

  • Prepping and managing special events, catering jobs, outside events, pop-upsJoe

  • Education of FOH staff as menu changes arise

  • Continuing education and /training of FOH staff to ensure our team knows the dishes we are serving, how they are prepared, ingredients, substitutions, etc.
