Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental subsidies, mental healt hservices, and wrap around services. What qualifications are required for this position?
You Are Also:
A team player, detailed-oriented, and analytical.
Someone with 5+ years of accounting and budgeting experience.
Holding a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
Knowledgeable in Quickbooks, Microsoft Excel (v-lookup, sums, etc), and Google Sheets.
Experienced in Non-profit and grant compliance.
Experienced with assisting with completion of Single Audit and 990 tax preparation
Someone with excellent written and communication skills.
Someone who can adapt well to a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
What You Will Do
You will report directly to the Controller and be a key player in running the day-to-day accounting operations. You will partake in developing and improving ongoing controls and processes to ensure financials are accurate and fairly presented. This position will be a key liaison between our internal and external partners in overseeing and managing several of our state and locally funded grants.
Responsibilities include
Oversee grant contracts and invoicing requirements, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Prepare reimbursable invoices and related supporting documentation as required.
Perform financial analysis and expense forecast to ensure successful spenddown of grants.
Plan and forecast headcount expense absorptions.
Monthly financial statement analysis to ensure accurate reporting and absorption of expenses
Understanding and management of indirect costs and match requirements as related to grant reimbursement reporting.
Identify and accurately report restricted vs unrestricted donations.
Maintain and track monthly depreciation and amortization schedules, such as fixed assets, prepaid expenses, etc.
Assist with accounting duties including, but not limited to, reviewing general ledger transactions, allocating programmatic expenses, aiding month-end close duties, and GL reconciliations.
Assist with annual financial and grant audits.
Collaborate with the Senior FP&A Manager to prepare the annual budget.
Perform regulatory and compliance research as needed.
Monitor and review subrecipients’ budgets and invoices.
Be a trusted resource and support internal clients with data driven management and financial analysis as needed across the organization.
Develop and streamline finance processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Ad hoc projects as needed.
Actively participate in reflective supervision
Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures in relation to duties of the job
Other duties as assigned by your supervisor
Working Conditions
This position is eligible for hybrid in person & remote work. Time spent on-site versus remote working will be discussed and agreed upon with your supervisor. You are expected to be available on-site as necessary given business needs. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform physical activities, including lifting up to 25 pounds. You will be subject to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask and handle stress.
Local travel in the greater Bay Area may be required.

The pay scale for the Senior Accountant is $80,000-$90,000 DOE. The benefits that come with working at Ruby’s Place at full-time hours include medical, dental, and vision plans, significant vacation, sick time, and vesting in our 403(b) with a generous match. This is a full-time, salaried position. This is a hybrid position (flex work), with some days required in our Castro Valley Office.
