Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY


Under the direction of the Director of Reimbursement, this position will administer all internal collection processes in regards to all patient accounts.  The position will also be responsible for all in-house collection accounts, time-pay accounts, and Debt Set Off (DSO).  

 

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY


  • Responsible for working all accounts that are listed in In-House Collection, Time-Pay, Debt Set Off (DSO), and Pending DSO Schedules
  • Provide thorough research and documentation of accounts for determination of keeping the account(s) in-house or setting them up with the state DSO program or outside collection agency
  • Responsible for adding accounts to the DSO program and processing the accounts so they match with the state
  • Responsible for contacting all delinquent accounts that are on the Time-Pay schedule
  • Assists in the process of contacting Self Pay Patients who receive a second notice
  • Researching and documenting accounts with returned mail
  • Documenting, scheduling, and appearing at court in order to attempt to collect on former RAA employees with outstanding computer and/or educational loans, or RAA property after Human Resources’ attempts have been unsuccessful in recovering the debt in full
  • Provide phone coverage for incoming/outgoing customer calls
  • Acts as liaison with the credit agencies that RAA utilizes as well as the Commonwealth of Virginia DSO program
  • Responsible for researching possible Homeless Patients
  • Responsible for making sure that accuracy and timeliness targets are met
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Maintains a high level of integrity
  • Provides reports, analysis, and project management
  • Maintains set productivity and tracking of success
  • Ability to move high volume of accounts while being consistent with account details and internal processes 
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned 

OTHER AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Accounts

  • Work all in-house patient accounts
  • Handle in-coming calls and email regarding past due and collection accounts

Debt Setoff

  • Process and manage all DSO
  • Notify collection agencies of pending or posted DSO payments

Bankruptcies

  • Process all bankruptcy documentation
  • Manage all terminated/ dismissed bankruptcies
  • Notify director of discharged Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 cases for write-off review

Employee Loans and RAA Property

  • Process and manage all court documents regarding employee loan collections
  • Process all employee debts in DSO program
  • Represent RAA during civil court proceedings

Notary

  • Notarize subpoenas and court records

Collection Agencies

  • First point of contact regarding all collection accounts
  • Submit validations on collection accounts upon request


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum three years’ experience in medical collections, bankruptcy, and liability claims 
  • Previous experience managing civil court claims
  • Thorough understanding of insurance payer billing, coding, and reimbursement
  • Successful customer service experience with patients and insurers
  • Must be a team player in a fast paced environment, with focus and attention to detail
  • Understanding of internal processes and the ability to research and multi-task 

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Candidates selected for employment are subject to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drugs.  Candidates who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the Richmond Authority
  • Candidates selected for employment are subject to a fingerprint background screening.        Candidates who refuse to be fingerprinted will be denied employment with the Richmond Authority
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program, or having an approved medical or religious exemption on file with Human Resources is required for all Richmond Ambulance Authority Personnel 
  • New employees complete a probationary period


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, moderate lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 
  • Must be able to walk and stand only occasionally
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures
  • Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and receive detailed information through oral communication
