Job Description

Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) is seeking a Finance Manager to support with financial planning and analysis, reporting, payroll, and some accounting functions. The Finance Manager is responsible for managing financial information, preparing reports, and developing standards and processes for proper financial management. Ensures that all proper accounting procedures are followed effectively and ethically working seamlessly with other departments to provide financial data to help RAFT achieve its mission.

RAFT is a nonprofit organization founded 26 years ago with the mission to help educators transform a child’s learning experience through hands-on education that inspires the joy and discovery of learning. RAFT has a $3M operating budget, support from 6,000 volunteers, financial and material donations from over 200 corporate partners, and support from individual donors. Donated materials become inexpensive supplies and enable us to be a certified green organization. RAFT is recognized as a non-profit leader in the community with awards such as 2021 Top-Rated status on Great Nonprofits, Platinum Seal of Transparency on GuideStar, and the 2020 Bay Area Parent Magazine Gold Medal for Best Education Support Program.

Sample of Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that RAFT follows all internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Prepares business activity reports, financial forecasts, annual budgets, monthly actual to budget reports for finance, committee, and board meetings.
  • Supports the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Audits account to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provide needed information for the annual external audit.
  • Supports the development of short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Supports bi-weekly payroll and post payroll activities
  • Supports 403b retirement contributions, employer matching, and retirement audits.
  • Leads the development and documentation of policies and procedures for the Finance function
  • Supports the Education team with a variety of accounting-related projects such as professional development and makerspace costing/invoicing
  • Conducts retail store analysis (kits, sales trends, membership)
  • Assists with processing Accounts Payables and recording transaction entries in NetSuite
  • Assists with the preparation of work papers and schedules for annual audits.
  • Assists with systems implementation and other costing and modeling projects.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in working with accounting software and databases 
  • NetSuite experience preferred
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiar with Google Workspace
  • Superior data management and data analysis skills
  • Detailed oriented

Education and/or Experience:                 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or other business-related fields. 
  • Three or more years of work experience in finance/accounting roles or related fields.
