Reading Interventionist

JOB DESCRIPTION
To support our struggling readers, our Reading Interventionists work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies. Each day our Reading Interventionists pulls small groups of students to support their reading development and language acquisition. Excellent candidates would be familiar with the science of reading and or the SRA reading intervention program including the acquisition of language, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, fluency, vocabulary, oral language and comprehension is a plus. Background and experience with English Language Learners is also a plus.

Our Reading Interventionist are supported through coaching and support from administration, implementing regular feedback, collaboration with colleagues, data analysis, and working to make sure that all students are successful.

At RTHS, faculty members support clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities, as well as actively mentor students.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
● Teach 5-6 sections of reading intervention piloting the SRA curriculum in a manner consistent with the vision and educational philosophies of the school.
● Monitor 1 section of a study hall/seminar period.
● Provide daily academic and personal mentoring to a group of students.
● Lead and/or support at least one extracurricular activity.
● Participate actively in the life of the school community.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in related content area; advanced degree preferred.
Seeking candidates that are great teammates with a track record of success.

Experience

At least three years of teaching experience in a high school or post-secondary classroom OR in-service experience in a professional teacher education program. Five years of teaching experience is preferred. NC licensure is not required but is an asset. Advanced Placement experience preferred.
