Job Description

Position Summary: The heavy equipment operator is responsible for operating multiple types of powered construction equipment such as excavators and bulldozers of all sizes, off road trucks, rubber tire loaders, backhoes, hoe rams, end dumps, compactors, motor grader or skid steers and to excavate, move, and grade materials, erect structures, or assist with concrete pours and demolition of other hard surface pavement in a safe and efficient manner. In This Role, You Will:

  • Operate heavy construction equipment in a safe and appropriate manner to mitigate risk of injury, property damage, and the loss of life in accordance to company policies
  • Perform daily pre-inspection of equipment to ensure it's safe and fit for duty, conduct on-going maintenance checks, and manage the daily custody of construction equipment
  • Conduct constant surveillance of surroundings before and during the operation of all equipment to ensure safe ground and slope conditions; maintain an adequate distance between other equipment, RECON team members and structures in the immediate work area
  • Communicate clearly using radio contact, visible verbal, and nonverbal hand signals to determine where materials should be safely placed, loaded or unloaded
  • Work closely with the Foreman and Superintendent onsite to perform dirt work with the highest level of quality, receive coaching/direction from senior level equipment operators working together to ensure production remains on schedule and construction work is conducted safely

What We Require:

  • Hoisting License
  • Experience with excavators and hydraulic hammers
  • Must be able to operate heavy construction equipment safely and with confidence to perform excavation and earthwork onsite for projects as assigned
  • High School diploma or equivalent,
  • 40 hour HAZWOPER training certification and TWIC preferred
  • Must be able to understand and demonstrate the limitations of heavy equipment, properly interpret load charts for associated heavy equipment and manufacturer approved attachments for the construction equipment
  • Must be willing and able work in an outdoor construction work environment with potential exposure to dust, noise, waste, toxic and infectious materials, and at times inclement weather conditions
