Summary
We are seeking a Senior Analyst to join the Project Finance team at Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar. This team member will be responsible for supporting mid- or late-stage equity sales, debt transactions, and tax equity financing for Recurrent Energy’s solar and battery storage projects and providing detailed financial analysis for all aspects of the business including reports to top management. The role is heavily focused on financial modeling for a broad range of utility scale solar and battery storage transactions and innovative corporate financings. This role is highly visible within the organization and requires collaboration with many different groups. We are looking for a someone with intellectual curiosity and high motivation that is interested in structuring/closing transactions that move the renewable energy market forward.
Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Areas
- Complete financial modeling and extensive analysis:
- Understand, create from scratch, edit, and review solar and battery storage project financing models
- Support deal leads for project sale and financing transactions by conducting financial analysis and coordinating due diligence across the organization
- Interact and assist with due diligence for external parties such as Investors, Lenders, and Independent Engineers
- Review and assist with negotiating term sheets and definitive documentation by converting terms into modeled project analyses
- Maintain responsibility for financial deal models for equity sales, M&A, debt, and tax equity transactions while working closely with counterparties and internal teams
- Calculate the valuation of renewable projects under various scenarios and make corresponding project capital structure recommendations
- Understand detailed revenue, expense and cost assumptions, project cost controls, budgeting and forecasting
- Ad hoc financial sensitivity analysis to support and guide decision making and negotiations
- Provide transaction execution support and business development:
- Create proposals, information memoranda, presentations, project schedules and internal presentations
- Assist with gathering and presenting information for financial partners performing due diligence on Recurrent Energy’s projects
- Review of key contracts, term sheets, or other documents for impact on valuation and financial modeling of solar and battery storage projects
- Perform credit analysis of project counterparties and technology bankability
- Facilitate flow of information between finance, development, power marketing, legal and engineering teams during transaction execution
- Assist with evaluating and underwriting power contracting and marketing options for various pipeline projects
- Manage deadlines and maintain accountability from cross-functional deal teams; lead peers across the organization with confidence and dedication.

Requirements
Knowledge & Skills
- Must demonstrate strong financial modeling and analysis skills including DCF
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including comfort with interacting with internal management and transaction counterparties
- Some knowledge of accounting and tax treatments related to renewable energy projects (ex. partnership flip and sale leaseback)
- Highly proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
- Solid understanding of corporate finance and economic concepts
- Expertise in tax equity modeling including capital accounts, depreciation, and buyouts (preferred)
- Basic conceptual understanding of power markets (preferred)

- Resourceful and comfortable working in an unstructured, entrepreneurial environment; this is a transaction-based environment where requirements and deadlines are dictated by deal flow
- Strong quantitative aptitude with an extremely high level of attention to detail
- Interested in working in a fast-growing industry that is making a tangible impact on climate change
- Ability to translate complex quantitative analysis into written, deliverable insights

Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 2 -5 years of work experience within investment banking, private equity, valuation consulting, or another transactional finance industry preferred
- CFA or other quantitative certifications are a plus
- A complex model test will be required during the interview process
