Job Description: The IDS Modernization and Innovation (M&I) team is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative team member to develop, manage and sustain automation initiatives in Massachusetts. This position will be support the entire lifecycle of an automation system including automated control systems design, specification, documentation, programming, simulation and testing, start-up assistance and sustainment. Additional responsibilities include driving continuous improvement projects across IDS sites with a main focus in Andover, MA and Portsmouth, RI. The Automation Engineer will report to the Operations Engineering Manager, and will interact directly with local factory leadership, manufacturing engineering, supply chain and other key functions to develop automation initiatives, deploy projects and implement continuous improvement initiatives while incorporating advanced Smart Factory/Industry 4.0 technologies. The position will be networked across all IDS factories across the USA as well as operations and automation engineers from other IDS business units. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of automation deployment in a factory setting, including high mix, low volume production. Required Skills: Experience in PLC and PC based automation systems development and deployment in a factory setting. Experience programming of Human Machine Interfaces (HMI/GUI); (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, etc.) Experience in Robotics programming (Fanuc, UR, ABB, etc.) 4 years professional engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 4 years being directly related to manufacturing, automation and/or controls. Familiarity with Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory concepts, Digital Manufacturing Simulation This position requires the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only US Citizens are eligible for a clearance. Desired Skills: Experience with machine vision systems (Fanuc, DVT/Cognex) Familiarity with NFPA79, NFPA70 (NEC), UL508, RIA standards Ability to estimate level of effort required for tasks, ability to develop business cases and return on investment analyses for projects. Understanding of Lean principles and terminology Understanding of distributed systems architecture and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) Experience with cyber and/or cyber-physical systems security protocols Experience or education in systems engineering and application to automation systems.
