Job Description


The Processing Department Manager is managing and overseeing all aspects of the processing department including team development, cost efficiency, continuous improvement, safety and quality performance.

§ Ensure production needs are met in a timely manner while adhering to all quality, cost, sanitation, safety, and regulatory standards.

§ Optimize operational efficiencies to support the batching and compounding process.

§ Track operational output measures (i.e. efficiency, yield loss, product quality, transactional accuracy), anticipating and correcting trends which would compromise the achievement of financial targets.

§ Maintain performance levels to meet the daily production schedule for the site, including generating the pre-weigh and processing schedules.

§ Ensure that the processing department is optimized and staffed appropriately based on the demand forecast.

§ Ensure the team is compliant with all safety policies and procedures. Address hazards, deviations and injuries in a timely manner.

§ Develop the team to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short and long-term performance goals.

§ Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally to assist the team with operational issues.

§ Flex production plans on a shift by shift basis to prevent service issues and operational inefficiencies.

§ Ensure cost performance gaps are identified, action plans are developed and resources are properly allocated.

§ Deliver effective change leadership to drive business changes while minimizing people impact.

§ Optimize ingredient material usage to minimize scrap loss.

§ Ensure compliance with company policies and good manufacturing processes (GMPs) are followed.

§ Review and maintain time records for employees.

§ Handle routine personnel issues including training, coaching and counseling.

§ Participate in hiring and training new employees on job expectations.

§ Encourage and participate in employee career development.


§ Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. Preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

§ 3-5 years of processing experience in a similar manufacturing environment is required.

§ Prior experience with managing and developing hourly staff is preferred.

§ Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Suite applications, ERP and MRP.

§ Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment.

§ Strong knowledge of plant operations and production scheduling.

§ Strong analytical skills, including interpretation of leading indicators and trends.

§ Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles preferred.

§ Ability to multi-task and problem solve, while maintaining a clear sense of priorities and focus.

§ Possess a continuous improvement mentality.

§ Ability to promote cohesiveness among team members.
