Job Summary:

Research Technicians assist with all aspects of research projects conducted in the Balaton Innovation Center Labs and Reef. Tasks may include analytical measurements, collecting samples, feeding / caring for shrimp, general preparation and execution of experiments, and cleaning. Technicians may be responsible for routine equipment maintenance. Depending on technician capability and experience, this position may lead certain portions of research and maintenance projects with limited direct supervision.

Key Work Duties:

  • Ensure safety policies are integrated into all daily activities.
  • Assist in the setup of equipment for trials and analytical tests
  • Collect and record experimental data
  • Conduct analytical tests associated with research projects
  • Inspect equipment and facility to identify signs of wear; make recommendations for repair and replacement
  • Within scope of responsibility and capability, repairs and replaces laboratory equipment parts and components; may involve developing a preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Support shrimp feeding process in the Innovation Center and Reef
  • Operate basic lab equipment for measuring water quality and evaluating specimens in their environment.
  • Clean equipment after experiments and trials.
  • Assist with examining shrimp to assess animal health
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements; assist management in developing, revising, and implementing best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Ability to accurately collect, record and report experimental data
  • Ability to work at times with limited direct supervision
  • Basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation practices
  • Ability to keep work area clean and well maintained
  • Ability to develop and build strong professional relationships
  • Possess a strong attention to detail

Job Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: B.S. / A.A. in Wildlife/Fisheries, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related degree
  • General: Satisfactorily complete introductory period per company policy
  • Weekends: Research Technicians can expect periodic weekend work and/or weekend call coverage.
  • Travel: This position may require periodic travel to trū Shrimp facilities and non-customer sites. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

  • Work Environment: Work can take place in a dry as well as wet laboratory setting. This can include daily exposure to 85º F temperatures and ~50 - 85% humidity.
