Summary/Objective

The Grant Writer will directly support the Assistant Director of Grants in writing, submitting, and managing funding proposals, conducting research on prospective donors, and supporting ongoing communication and stewardship with existing and prospective donors. The Grant Writer will remain up to date with relevant trends in the Healthcare industry to ensure proposals take into consideration these developments and will provide writing, editing, and other ad-hoc services in the grant management process.

The salary range for this role will be 80K-100K. This will be a hybrid schedule Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM.

Role/Responsibilities
  • Prepare grant proposals and accompanying materials, including writing compelling organizational, program, and budget narratives, and collecting supporting documents to compile a competitive application reflective of the House's goals and priorities
  • Write and edit grant and reporting materials throughout duration of grant, from prospecting stage, to proposal submission and final reporting
  • Research and identify new funding prospects that align with the House's mission and current priorities
  • Prospect funders using research methodologies such as Guidestar Pro, The Foundation Directory Online, Relationship Science (RelSci), and others
  • Work across the organization to understand programs' funding needs and to gather information and materials needed for proposals and reports
  • Support Assistant Director in managing grant proposal and reporting timelines to ensure deadlines are met, flagging upcoming deadlines and proposals and reports that may require more bandwidth
  • Draft communications (ex. LOIs, cultivation emails) to prospective and existing donors to maintain and cultivate donor relationships
  • Experience with health equity, value-based care, and remain up to date on latest developments and news related to other priorities for the House

  • Support the Assistant Director of Grants in responding to ad hoc requests and questions from funders
  • Support Assistant Director of Grants in compiling materials, numbers, and updates for internal Development meetings, updates, and briefs as needed
  • Support Assistant Director of Grants in reviewing and monitoring grant agreements to ensure organization can adhere to donor requirements
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of CRM database; support CRM management and transition, including data entry, deduplicating records, and cleaning historical data
  • Work with Finance team to manage grant spending to ensure funds are spent within donor timeline on appropriate expenses
  • Support the Assistant Director of Grants and the Development department in ad hoc tasks as needed and perform other duties as needed

Qualifications & Competencies
  • Three (3) years grant writing and reporting experience in a government/non-profit setting, with a focus on healthcare strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
  • Experience working in or knowledge of healthcare
  • Experience in researching prospective donors whose goals align with the organization's priorities and mission
  • Experience compiling funding proposals, liaising with donors to submit proposals and updates, and managing the grant funds once secured
  • Knowledge of philanthropy landscape, trends, and sources particularly in NYC
  • Excellent writing skills and acute attention to detail; ability to organize complex content with strong written, reporting and presentation skills
  • Deadline driven workstyle with ability to adjust priorities, multi-task, manage time appropriately in a dynamic environment, and produce quality results on time
  • Self-motivated strategic thinker with a proven record taking initiative, working independently, and achieving results
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with CRM (such as Raiser's Edge, Salesforce, Bloomerang), preferred

  • This job is located in the same facility where RMH-NY provides temporary accommodations to pediatric patients and their families while the patients are undergoing active medical treatment at area hospitals. For some RMH-NY guests, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered at RMH-NY, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in guests who have undergone radiation therapy. Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working at RMH will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Noise levels often increase with families and children who have temporary residence in the building as well as guests and musical performers for special events as well as mechanical equipment
  • Some weekends and evening hours may be necessary for this job
