ACCOUNTANT - GRANTS (HYBRID SCHEDULE)
Our client, a major membership organization, seeks an Accountant for a 1-Year contract position in Washington, DC. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining/managing grant and contract invoicing and reporting to grantor agencies, maintaining professional relations with programs and grant/contract monitors, following up with grantors and contractors to ensure payments are received in a timely fashion, tracking and projecting budget spending, and ensuring adequate records are maintained for all grants and contracts.
The hybrid schedule supports remote work on Monday and Friday and on-site Tuesday through Thursday in the Washington, DC office.
Responsibilities
- Primarily in charge of complex grants. Prepare required grant and contract invoices for submission to the appropriate agencies and post them to the sub-ledger and GL in a timely fashion.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly grant invoicing.
- Maintain filing system for grants, checks, correspondences, invoices, grant reconciliations, and reports pertaining to assigned awards.
- Participate in program meetings. Work closely with regional managers, Sr Director, and Assistant Directors to assist them with the budget to actual and projection analysis.
- Review grant spending reports with program managers on a monthly basis and provide feedback or presentation on the milestone and actions to be taken.
- Assure all reports, invoice submissions and renewals follow schedules stipulated in the grant or contract awards.
- Responsible for monthly grants account reconciliation to assure all grant revenues, expenses, and accounts receivable are recorded in the appropriate months.
- Prepare audit schedules and participate in various grant/financial audits as necessary.
- Coordinate with Business Manager to ensure A/R follow-ups and receivables status report is completed monthly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required with minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a non-profit, contract/grant management setting.
- Requires experience in a highly computerized environment.
- Critical, analytical, and creative thinking to identify and solve problems. Requires experience analyzing complex contract and grants accounts.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong problem solving and technical accounting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with extreme attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
- Thorough hands-on working knowledge and demonstrated skills in matters related to accounting and financial policies, procedures, and reporting.
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP/FASB required.
- Must be able to work/communicate effectively in a multicultural team environment.
