Job Description

The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana is located on the northwest side of Indianapolis. RHI provides quality service to those facing life-changing injuries or illness. Featured as the only Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System in the state of Indiana as well as a CARF-certified rehabilitation center. The focus of this position is to improve long-term outcomes for people with brain injury in Indiana and to support the development of a statewide long-term brain injury service structure. Over the past decade, RHI has pioneered a community-oriented service called Resource Facilitation (RF) that has helped people averaging 10-years post-injury return to work. Through RF, we have seen many long-term consequences of brain injury, including: alienation of family and friends, marital problems, serial job loss or chronic unemployment, and involvement in the criminal justice system. We are also actively engaged in the development of programming complementary to RF. We are looking for a Neuropsychologist, Rehabilitation Psychologist, Health Psychologist or a PhD in Occupational Therapy to lead the clinical practice and program development in these efforts. The ideal candidate will have an interest in research and applying that research to the development of new evidence-based services.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in developing ensuring and guiding the ongoing quality of these programs from a clinical perspective, the development of new community services, and supporting new service development and adoption by funders. This will be accomplished by balancing the provision of traditional clinical services with providing clinical leadership to RHI's community-integrated brain injury services and initiatives. This person may also participate in: demonstration grants, and related research if appropriate, and in training other post-doctoral fellows regarding clinical oversight of longer-term community services like Resource Facilitation. As needed, and times allows, this person may also provide clinical services in their discipline. Finally, this position may represent RHI at professional organizations like ACRM, and participate as a subject matter expert in support of RHI teams interacting with Indiana State and Federal officials.

This position requires a PhD level professional, in: Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, Health Psychology, or Occupational Therapy. While clinical leadership is a key element in this role, we would support an early-career PhD with an interest in developing the leadership and research skill sets. This as a position with significant growth potential.

This position reports to the Clinical Director, Neuropsychology, and will work with a team at RHI that includes the Executive Director, the Director of the Research, Training and Outcomes Center for Brain Injury (RTOC), Resource Facilitation Program Manager, the Chair, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Indiana University School of Medicine, and will have collaboration with the Executive Director of Brain Injury Rehabilitation Research and Program Development until May of 2022, and other RHI leaders as appropriate.

II. JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSClinical Supervision RHI Resource Facilitation (RF) Services
  1. Clinical leadership:
    • Provide clinical leadership to the Resource Facilitation (RF) Department. Each Resource Facilitation case is led by a Neuropsychologist; this position provides clinical support to any Neuropsychologist serving in that role within RF.
    • Establishes and maintains clinical policy and procedure for Resource Facilitation services.
  2. Provide Clinical support to Resource Facilitators. Operational leadership is provided by the RF Program Manager.
  3. Establishes annual training and education plan for Resource Facilitators that drive competencies and support RF clinical fidelity standards.
  4. Liaisons with the RHI RTOC to:
    • Enable acquisition, management and reporting of program evaluation and outcome measurement, and fidelity data, and
    • Participate in preparation of the RF annual report and quarterly reports on program evaluation and outcome measures, and applicable fidelity metrics,
    • Participates in RHI grants to develop the experience and background to provide clinical leadership in future RHI grants.
  5. Consistent with licensure, may provide supervision of Masters prepared providers who are providing services such as psychotherapy.

The Indiana ACL TBI Grant

  1. This position works with the Executive Director, Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Program Development to develop the skills necessary to:
  2. Oversee and lead the Indiana TBI Advisory Board, that include initiatives to
    • Improve service delivery policies for people with TBI,
    • promote strategies to build system and organizational capacity for TBI-informed treatment and management of TBI as a chronic condition, and
    • Increase awareness in Indiana of available resources for TBI
  3. Collaborate with the Indiana Department of Health and/or other state agencies to
    • build their capacity to provide evidence-based TBI services,
    • establish and conduct clinical surveillance for TBI-relevant metrics, and provide consultation and feedback to Trauma Centers to promote best practices and performance improvement
      • Provides education and advocacy to state agencies and other organizations,
      • Works with other ACL TBI grantees in the various workgroups, including for example the Criminal Justice/Juvenile Justice, Workforce Development or others to develop work products and/or TBI education and training
      • Collaborates with the RHI Chief of Medical Affairs on ACL grant from clinical and programmatic perspectives and with Peter Bisbecos from a governmental affairs perspective.


  1. Collaborates with the Director of the Research Training and Outcome Center (RTOC) and other staff as assigned in planning and pursuing research opportunities that study interventions to positively affect long term outcomes for people with brain injury.
  2. Prepares grant applications and/or collaborates with others in grant writing in conjunction with the Director of the Research, Training and Outcomes Center for Brain Injury and with the Executive Director. Identify and pursue opportunities to promote research activities through publication, conferences, and other appropriate means as identified.

Provides Clinical Services consistent with licensure

  1. Provides Resource Facilitation NeuroVocational Evaluations
  2. Leads case conferences on Resource Facilitation clients
  3. Provides other clinical services as determined by the Director of Neuropsychology and the Executive Director
  4. Clinical caseload will vary depending on clinical support and research activities.

Subject Matter Expertise

  1. Develop subject matter expertise related to brain injury over the lifespan through work with RF and other RHI brain injury services and through involvement in research projects.
  2. May be asked to work with the Executive Director or other RHI leaders to provide subject matter expertise in working with policymakers at the state and federal levels.

Education and Experience

  • Successful grant preparation and management preferred
  • Expert in brain injury and brain injury rehabilitation
  • PHD or PSYD in Neuropyschology, Rehabilitation Psychology, Health Psychology or Occupational Therapy
  • Indiana Licensure to practice
