Principal Design Engineer

The Role
The successful candidate is expected to evaluate, implement and create design solutions. Working under the immediate supervision of Quest Global Program Manager, you will develop design configurations and create Unigraphics/NX solid models of design concepts to customer specifications, primarily for gas turbine engines and accessories. You should have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Aerospace Engineering field. In addition, you will be the face of Quest Global to your customers.  Listen to customer’s problems, and build on the experiences you have personally had, then develop innovative ways to solve their engineering problems.

Job Functions

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will:

• Create sketches and solid models of design concepts
• Incorporate design for manufacturing concepts into product design
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret 3D models and technical documents to support tooling, part, and subassembly reviews. Working knowledge/implementation of GD&T principles.
• Successfully execute design and development tasks to provide engineering solutions
• Responsible for design configuration; cost, weight, assembly, and produce-ability requirements
• Determine egress and routing for instrumentation
• Evaluate non-conformances with respect to fit, form, and function
• Make design change recommendations (cost savings, productivity improvements, etc), document the work, and present the findings to our clients Mentor, teach and provide oversight to entry level engineers
• Present work to customers at product reviews
• Generate design documentation such as product review material, tolerance stacks, and design layout
• Work as part of a cohesive design engineering team
• Understand requirements and evaluate new product structural integrity and functionality in support of meeting those requirements
• Interact with internal and external customers and ensures satisfactory deliverables
• Assist Engineering Management to coordinate the timely delivery of product design and customer proposal requests
• Conceptualize and prepare preliminary and final detail design and documentation of systems components and assemblies
• Participate in requirements reviews, technical writing and costing activities during proposal (RFQ) efforts
• Lead interdisciplinary engineering teams to infuse mechanical design requirements and features, establishing viability of overall design approach and guide planning and/or directions
• Coach and mentor less experienced designers

 Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
• 12+ years of experience in Design Engineering
• Familiarity with Gas Turbine Engine and the Propulsion Systems is a must
• Experience with 3D solid model based definition (MBD) engineering release – is a must
• General knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing techniques (castings, metal cutting, turning, coatings, milling, EDM, welding, sheet metal/composite forming and joining, metal tube bending), and industry standards
• General knowledge of GD&T and ability to perform tolerance stacks
• Blueprint reading, understanding and transfer ability
• Ability to conduct technical review with final sign off authority
• Strong communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Strong analytic skills including Root Cause Analysis, Strength of Materials, Statics
