SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Jewish Life is a part-time position (~10 hours per week during fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters; some weeks with no hours scheduled due to holidays or work requirements) that works closely with other spiritual life programs and departments to support Queens' commitment to welcoming all people and nurturing relationships among people of different religious world views with a primary focus on supporting and growing Jewish life at Queens. This role challenges and nurtures students, faculty, and staff to deepen their faith as well as their commitment to seeking justice in our world. The Coordinator of Jewish Life reports to the University Chaplain on all matters relating to the religious, faith, and spiritual life of the university. The Coordinator of Jewish Life also maintains a relationship with the Director and Campus Rabbi of the Stan Greenspon Holocaust and Social Justice Education Center. This position is not exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore is eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Build relationships through peer engagement. This role creates and expands social networks with involved and previously uninvolved Jewish students and students engaged in interfaith work on campus. (What is peer engagement? Engagement is reaching others, getting to know them, and connecting with them on the basis of their interests, ambitions, and passions.)
• Maintain list of all Jewish students, faculty and staff on campus, as well as students, faculty and staff interested in Interfaith work and regularly reaches out to every Jewish faculty and staff member on campus update them on upcoming programs and events.
• Create a pluralistic, inclusive and innovative Jewish educational vision for the Hillel
• Ensure a pluralistic and welcoming atmosphere for all
• Demonstrate facility and comfort with Jewish traditions, holidays, culture, and basic texts and communicate this knowledge to others
• Serve as a Jewish educational resource for others and use the Campus Rabbi an essential element in programs
• Ensure a diversity of perspectives on Israel is presented in a way that engages students.
• Coordinate Jewish holiday and Shabbat programs in partnership with Hillel President and Board and Campus Rabbi.
• Engage in campus relations with the Interfaith Committee. Work with Student Life and Chapel to ensure presence at meetings/events.
• Invite Jewish students from local college campuses to participate in Queens Jewish Life programming.
• Cooperate with Queens interfaith team to encourage interfaith dialogue, cultural exchange and social outreach programs.

Non-Essential Duties: Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and university needs.


Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:
• 1-3 years of experience organizing programs and facilitating conversations relating to Jewish and/or Campus Life
• Ability to communicate and demonstrate a deep faith and an open and inclusive spirit
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, culture, and basic texts and communicate this knowledge to others
• Ability to present a diversity of perspectives on Israel in a way that engages students.
• Experience working with college students in a university setting
• Demonstrated appreciation for the value of interfaith understanding and cooperation
• Experience guiding emerging adults in faith and moral development
• Ability to develop and implement creative, visionary programs
• Strong communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal, presentation) and ability to quickly establish and maintain strong rapport with a diversity of people and backgrounds
• Ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• A high level of personal integrity and professionalism and a proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
