Job Description
QuarterLine is currently seeking a full-time, Orthopedic, Registered Nurse join our team at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA. As an employee of QuarterLine, you will have the opportunity to treat active duty personnel, military retirees, eligible veterans, and their enrolled family members at David Grant USAF Medical Center. About : A Joint Commission-accredited teaching hospital, David Grant USAF Medical Center is the Air Force Medical Service's flagship medical treatment facility in the United States, providing a full spectrum of health care and patient-centered treatment to a prime service area population of more than 130,000 TRICARE eligible patients in the immediate San Francisco-Sacramento vicinity and more than 377,000 Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System eligibles. DGMC provides postgraduate training programs in family medicine, radiology, surgery, transitional year, dentistry, oral surgery, nurse anesthesia, pharmacy, clinical social workers, technicians and clinical nurses. The campus includes the VA Fairfield Outpatient Clinic, a Clinical Investigation Facility, a community-supported Fisher House, the largest Hyperbaric Medicine chamber on the west coast and the Armed Services Whole Blood Processing Laboratory. Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities: Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness. Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions. Coordinates musculoskeletal patients through a continuum of care and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness. Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF. Ensures completion of pre-operative patient preparation to include but not limited to: ensuring pre-operative required documentation is loaded into EMR, validate/witness surgical consents, and enter requisite pre-operative orders into EMR. Perform physical exam and health histories. Provide health promotions, counseling, and education. Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions. Direct and supervise care provide by other healthcare professionals. Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel. Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations. Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate. Perform nursing services identified in the TO. Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes. Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions. Coordinates musculoskeletal patients through a continuum of care and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness. Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries. Ensures completion of pre-operative patient preparation to include but not limited to: ensuring pre-operative required documentation is loaded into EMR, validate/witness surgical consents, and enters requisite pre-operative orders into EMR. Serve as the primary patient point of contact for clinical questions; possess excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education and telephone triage. Telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow-up care as required. Prescribes and communicates treatment plans and patient teaching in accordance with established protocols. Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching. Complete paperwork associated with patient injuries, disabilities, and post-operative recovery to include but not limited to Family Medical Leave Act, disability, and work restriction correspondence. Provide pre-operative patient and family education in one-on-one and class environments. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues. Serve as a liaison for the department with floor and PACU nursing to educate, train assigned nurses on the care and discharge planning of musculoskeletal surgical patients. Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts, in accordance with requirements. Makes referral appointments and arranges specialty care as appropriate. Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as ultrasound machines, EKG units, and other clinic specific equipment. Performs/assists with procedures such as ultrasound injections, minor clinic procedures, casting and splinting, wound care, and dressing changes in accordance with established protocols. Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate. May be required to work various shifts or augment clinical nursing support during the absence of other team nurses due to illness, leave or deployment; specifically may cover case management issues during temporary absence of assigned case manager. Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives. Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations. Preferred working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits. Minimum Qualifications: Degree/Education: Associates Degree in Nursing. Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse as required in the TO. Certifications: Basic Life Support certificate through the American Heart Association. Experience: At least 24 months of experience as a clinical nurse in a surgical clinical or inpatient surgical ward setting. Citizenship : U.S. citizenship. Credentialing : Ability to pass background check and drug screen. Current physical and immunizations. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working with the military population. Work Location, Hours, and Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements : You will be working in a military treatment facility and must be on the premises to perform the job. The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift. Normal Duty Hours/Shifts : Monday through Friday from 0730 to 1630. Scheduling: The schedule is maintained by clinic personnel based on demands of the clinic and appointments booked that day. Specific days, hours, and shift length will be scheduled by the designated government representative. The specific schedule for each two-week period will be provided in advance. Any changes in the schedule shall be coordinated between the HCW and the Government. Any planned absences of the HCW shall be communicated to the Government supervisor in advance of the absence in order to ensure that clinical operations are not adversely affected.
