The Utility Technical Services Project Engineer will support the continued operation of QTS utility infrastructure throughout the North American portfolio. This role will support technical services by maintaining quality operations, maintenance programs, asset control, and technical expertise. This role will interface and collaborate with many critical stakeholders, including but not limited to: Utility engagement leading utility contracting and power diligence; pre-development teams leading overall due diligence and entitlements; utility delivery teams directing transmission and substation projects; operations leaders managing day-to-day substation operations; and development team project leaders planning and building new data centers.

RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned

  • Support the Utility Technical Services team with required reporting, data collection, and deliverables
  • Manage and organize documentation for utility development projects
  • Support the procurement, storage, and asset management of critical long-lead and spare equipment
  • Maintain and enforce document management standards for the Utility Development team
  • Level pricing proposals for design and commissioning services
  • Review change order requests from relevant contractors
  • Support technical engagement for utility projects
  • Support for: utility engineering, HV/MV subject matter expertise, HV/MV commissioning, utility program standards & specifications, and HV/MV infrastructure operations and maintenance program requirements
  • Collaborate with Pre-Development, Utility Delivery, Utility Engagement, Energy, Development, Legal, Sales, and especially Facility Operations to support QTS' power infrastructure


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent professional experience
  • Two or more years or more years' experience running projects or related professional experience
  • Knowledge of substation operations and equipment
  • Able to travel up to 25% of the time or as needed to support relationship building and diligence


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Four or more years substation operations
  • Knowledge of operations & maintenance on large-scale power infrastructure
  • Technical understanding of high- and medium-voltage electrical engineering principles
  • HV relay technician and/or HV maintenance and operation experience highly valued

  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships and influence cross-discipline teams
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations at a high growth company
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and deliver high quality work in tight timeframes
