Job Description

 

QAi Quality Assurance inc. is looking for experienced candidates to conduct inspections of oil & gas pipe manufacturing & coating in the Little Rock, Arkansas area.

Successful applicants will be independent contractors who must exhibit a strong commitment to safety, be reliable, and able to work shift work.

Previous experience in oil and gas pipe manufacturing, coating, QA/QC and/or inspection is required. Industry certifications such as welding inspection ), NACE, and/or NDT certifications are considered an asset.

Job Description

LEAD QUALITY SURVEILLANCE INSPECTOR (PIPE - CSA Z245.1 and API 5L):

  • Conduct audits of pipe manufacturing to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Maintain a high level of worksite health and safety
  • Review requirements and specifications prior to and during project execution.
  • Monitor incoming plate/coil condition & monitor welding parameters to ensure compliance with approved welding procedure specifications.
  • Monitor ultrasonic calibration to ensure sensitivity and procedures meet customer and industry requirements and standards.
  • Verify image quality indicator (IQI) & essential parameters for radiographic testing.
  • Monitor hydrostatic testing processes for compliance to customer and industry requirements and standards. Confirm validity of calibration for pressure gauges and recorders.
  • Witness mechanical testing, including guided bend tests, impact testing, and tensile testing.
  • Visual inspection of finished pipe, verification of traceability.
  • Maintain detailed logbook of all events affecting quality during shift (i.e. non-conformance issues, unresolved manufacturing issues, etc.) and document reasons for and duration of “downtime” during shift.

COATING INSPECTOR (Plant Applied Fusion-Bond Epoxy - CSA Z245.20)

  • Maintain work-site health and safety to a high standard.
  • Review requirements and specifications prior to and during project execution.
  • Review coating applicator’s quality records to ensure that process has been carried out in accordance with applicable procedures and specifications.
  • Perform a coating inspection patrol regularly during shift (every two hours at a minimum). This involves monitoring all stages of pipe coating, including: incoming pipe condition, preheat, surface preparation, verification of coating parameters to customer and industry specifications, visual inspection of coated pipe, monitoring of holiday testing, and verification of stenciling/traceability.
  • Witness coating laboratory tests, including epoxy powder gel tests, flexibility testing, impact testing, adhesion testing, cathodic disbondment, & differential scanning calorimetry.
  • Maintain detailed logbook of all events affecting quality during shift (i.e. non-conformance issues, unresolved application issues, etc.) and document reasons for and duration of “downtime” during shift.
  • Submit summary report to the Inspection Supervisor on production status, coating releases and laboratory test results at the end of each shift

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Reliability & ability to work independently without supervision, and cooperatively as a member of an inspection team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with suppliers to resolve any noted quality concerns.
  • Diploma from recognized technical college or institution OR High School matriculation and related industry certification​ strongly recommended.
  • 3-5+ Years in an inspection or QA/QC role; a combination of related experience and education will be considered (e.g. pipe manufacturing and/or pipe coating).
  • Strong communication skills are necessary. Experience with MS office and report writing ability is an asset.
  • Experience with oil & gas pipe manufacturing (API 5L/CSA Z245.1) or pipe coating (CSA Z245.20/Z245.30) is strongly recommended.

Additional qualifications such as welding inspection certification (CWB, CWI), coating inspection (SSPC/NACE), or NDT certifications (ASNT/CGSB) or experience would be considered an asset.

This posting is for a short term to medium term contracts, with duration depending on project length. Expected duration of current project is estimated at approx. 9 months.

Remuneration is negotiable, and will depend on the experience of the contracted candidates.
