This position reports to the Chief Scientist and provides senior experience in day-to-day activities of chemistry department in fast-paced, state-regulated analytical chemistry lab.

Performs analysis of samples using chromatographic and spectroscopic methods according to SOPs using required software, prepares analytical reference materials, reviews daily data to ensure the meeting of quality control requirements for each sample reported. Arranges for any re-analysis required to meet QC requirements and performs necessary troubleshooting and maintenance to resolve any issues preventing on-time reporting of results and to bring analysis back on-line. Completes data reporting in a timely manner including QC validation, record generation and storage for assigned areas of analysis.
Responsible for organizing work to meet on-time delivery of results.
Performs method development and improvement for assigned analyses and newly assigned areas, as needed. Ensuring all steps of method validation as required by the Bureau of Cannabis Control and internal quality system are met in analyses performed, SOP’s are written, up-to-date, properly loaded into document control and all methods have met all requirements for ISO 17025 and State of CA.
Develops and maintains appropriate quality control processes and procedures to guarantee accuracy of analysis and quality of results.
Responsible for routine and periodic instrument maintenance, adhering to maintenance programs and arranging for service of assigned instrumentation. Reviews and assists in site preparations for new instrumentation installations as assigned.
Responsible for ensuring that inventory is properly maintained and ordered on time to meet production demands for assigned analyses. Explores opportunities for improvement in cost or use of scientific supplies.
Supports inquiries from Management, Sales team, Clients and Bureau of Cannabis Control and responds as required to support the needs of the business.
The designation of Senior level title is dependent on experience and applicant may be hired as Scientist or Analyst if experience does not meet the requirements.
Requires a minimum Masters of Science or PhD with emphasis in Chemistry or Biochemistry and a minimum of 5-7 years of full-time experience in the field of chemical analysis, forensics or in a related area, or PhD with 3-5 years of relevant experience. BS with 10+ year’s experience considered.
A high level of competency in Quantitative Chemical Analysis, Method Development and Validation. Strong experience in sample analysis and quantitation by mass spectrometry and spectral data validation as well as a high level of proficiency in general chromatography skills, either LC-MSMS or GC-MS, with Agilent instrumentation skills strongly preferred. Proficiency in ChemStation, Mass Hunter Acquisition, Quant., and Qual. software, a plus.
Well-qualified applicants will have experience operating in SOP-driven, ISO 17025 or government regulated analytical labs with an emphasis on quality control, quantitative analysis, method development and instrumentation skills. A depth of experience in chromatographic data interpretation and validation is required microbiology and metals analysis experience is a plus.
Strong candidates will have a high level of competency in trace analysis of contaminants, pesticides or drug compounds and clear understanding of acceptable practices for data and method validation.
