Performs sample preparation and analysis to quantify target analytes. Maintains appropriate quality control processes and procedures to guarantee accuracy of analysis. Familiar with standard concepts, policies, and practices in an analytical lab. Performs work under the supervision of the Sr. Science staff, but relies on experience to organize work, set priorities, drive improvements, and support quality of analysis. Also, responsible for setting up instrument sequences, monitoring instrument runs and data and performing instrument maintenance under the supervision of the Sr. Chemist, Analyst or Scientist.
Performs chemical extraction, analysis and reporting of results for a variety of chemical analyses including chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. Performs sample preparation and extraction to support chemical analysis that may include LCMSMS, GC-FID, HPLC-DAD, Flame AA, GC-ECD, GC-HS as well as Microbiological analyses. Supports method development and improvement to meet cost reduction and quality goals. Reviews SOP’s frequently and provides input for updates ensuring SOPs are up-to-date. Maintains current knowledge of regulations governing analysis. Maintains appropriate quality control processes and procedures to guarantee accuracy of analysis and quality of results. Responsible for preparing data and associated quality control, preparing reports for delivery to clients and in accordance with all regulatory requirements. Responsible for supporting instrument maintenance and maintaining records. Responsible for ensuring that supplies are in stock and ordered in a timely manner according to inventory controls. Responds to inquiries from Sr. Scientist and responds as required to support the needs of the business. May report to the Sr. Chemist, Analyst or Scientist depending on final assignment.

Requires a minimum Bachelor of Science Degree with emphasis in chemistry (biochemistry, chemistry) and a minimum of 2-3 years, 3-5+ years preferred, experience in the field or in a related area, or Masters of Science degree (with an emphasis in biochemistry or chemistry minor in biology or microbiology) with 2 years of relevant professional laboratory experience, preferring experience in a commercial lab.
Applicant must have experience in general laboratory techniques including quantitative analysis, accurate weighing and pipetting. Experience in one or more areas of analysis is preferred: GCMS, HPLC, volatiles analysis using HS-GC, GC-FID, GC-ECD, LC/MSMS, Flame-AA. Microbiology skills are a plus. Experience in a regulated lab (EPA, FDA) or ISO environment preferred. A high level of proficiency is required with quantitative analytical chemistry, instrumentation, software applications (ChemStation) as well as MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook). Experience in basic and advanced lab skills, equipment maintenance, quantitative analysis, extractions, calibrations, sample analysis, quality control, and calculating results is required.
