The Food Scientist position will be responsible for all R&D activities and tasks of various plant-based meat product development and production projects from concept to scale-up validation, including initial formulation, prototype development from bench to production line, accommodation, and standardization in mass production line to commercialization. This position will apply a wide range of knowledge and experience to contribute to R&D projects and lead continuous process improvement for quality and cost reduction and troubleshoot for product quality and efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage new product development from concept thru commercialization for plant-based food products for technical and administrative activities
  • Establish mid-term and annual business plan for plant-based meat R&D category
  • Lead process improvement for quality and cost reduction for products, including co-packed products; troubleshoot for product quality and efficiency
  • Research and identify new materials, suppliers, and work with co-packers for new projects and/or assignment
  • Maintain development and maintenance of QMS for assigned products
  • Conduct scale-up testing and apply a wide range of food process engineering knowledge to identify the root causes of equipment, process, production environment-related issues
  • Work with internal cross-functional teams as well as vendors to understand available technology and provide ideas, solutions, and alternatives to meet food safety, quality, costs, and customer requirements
  • Provide timely progress updates of projects and in line with NPD progression to the internal team
  • Maintain an awareness of market trends and comparative products from all major retailers/competitors and recommends product development ideas in line with those trends and coordinates with cross-functional teams
  • Apply a wide range of food microbiology and chemistry knowledge to identify the root causes of product defects and propose preventive actions
  • Provide supervisory responsibilities to 1-2 R&D teams including providing overall direction, technical feedback, and support, including performance appraisals
  • Assist with special project assignments as needed


  • BS degree in Food Science or similar is required. M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in a similar discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in R&D/product development with refrigerated consumable food products
  • Product development experience with plant-based food and process meat is preferred
  • Demonstrated success working with a team of food scientists or technologists of varying levels
  • Strong project management skills and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge in cGMP, HACCP, FDA food labeling, USDA National Organic Program, Food Safety Plan, Standard Operating Procedure, and Quality Management System
  • Proficiency with computer systems and MS Office and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual in Korean preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 40%
