POSITION SUMMARY

Dental assistants perform patient care support, office and laboratory duties. Assistants will prepare patients for oral examination, assist dental professionals in providing treatments, and help in the front office.

POSITION STATUS

This position is full-time or part-time position and non-exempt and reports to the Dental Team Lead.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required

Ability to speak and write fluently in English; Spanish required

Two years successful experience in a clinical setting preferred

Electronic Health Records experience helpful

Competencies

Interest in working as team with staff and volunteers to serve patients

Knowledge of a dental office practice

Moderate proficiency with dental equipment

Moderate proficiency with computers

Average numerical and verbal capacity

Interest in work involving considerable contact with people

Ability to follow established procedures and maintain high level of organization

Ability to handle most setbacks with calmness and ease

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Physical Requirements

Moderate physical exertion including frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching and carrying moderately heavy loads

(up to 25 lbs.)

Ability to work in conditions that include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues, contagious diseases and/or other

potentially hazardous materials

Fine motor coordination sufficient to perform manipulative skills

Ability to stand for extended periods of time, hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity

necessary to deliver medical services and use equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the dentist and hygienist as directed including:

Admit patients and measurements as applicable

Take initial medical information including medication history

Make accurate entries in patient charts and check appointment dates

Assists patients to examination rooms, lab and restrooms

Clean, restock and straighten exam rooms

Make appointments and schedule referrals as directed

Make copies and faxes documents as requested

Performs other duties as required
