Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low-income people to become self-reliant through integrated services. This Resident Support Specialist-ReStart Supportive Housing is responsible for front desk coverage and monitoring residents at PPL Re-Start during evening hours. PPL Re-Start is a 14-unit permanent supportive housing campus for individuals with criminal histories who have faced barriers in obtaining stable and affordable housing. This position maintains structure in the building and provides residents with positive and supportive interaction and activities.
PPLs Supportive Housing, using the Housing First philosophy, helps over 200 single adults each year find and keep housing, and reach educational, employment, family and individual goals. Participants have long-term homelessness and live with mental illness and chemical dependency. Housing is located within PPL properties and with private landlords in Hennepin and Ramsey counties.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Provide front desk coverage and monitor security cameras. Review stored video footage from overnight.
- Perform regular rounds of the premises.
- Maintain Resident Interaction log.
- Communicate concerns about residents, critical issues or ongoing complaints to the PPL Property Manager, RS-Singles Management, and other service provider staff as needed. Follow through with procedures for program violations or incident reports.
- Collaborate with Re-Start team members to plan and offer programming to support community and resident goals.
- Maintain community resources, lists and bulletin boards. Develop monthly newsletters.
- Establish, model and maintain positive relationships with participants.
- Effectively handle a variety of situations requiring tact, judgment, de-escalation techniques and follow-up.
- Plan and facilitate resident meetings.
- Provide ongoing crisis intervention and support, including de-escalating potentially volatile situations; when appropriate, call local law enforcement.
- Recognize and report chemical dependency and other problematic behaviors.
- Answer and route telephone calls and miscellaneous questions from employees, clients, and the public, and provide customer service. Perform related administrative duties.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as needed.
- Self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond to the unique cultural, economic and social needs and resources of residents, using these unique resources to meet their goals.
- Strong desire to serve people from diverse cultures, economic and social situations.
- Experience with people with criminal histories and in criminal justice systems.
- Ability to work independently.
- Individual participant engagement, group facilitation, mediation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate and share information with team members.
- Ability to recognize and address chemical dependency and other problematic behaviors.
- Access to reliable transportation.

- Perform related administrative tasks or other duties as assigned or directed.
Education & Experience
- AA or BA degree preferred in related field (additional experience may substitute for education).
- 2+ years’ experience in Human Services, Corrections, Criminal Justice or other closely related fields.

Salary: $16.00-$17.00/hr., DOQ
