Progeny is the lead system integrator for the Undersea Warfare Decision Support System (USW-DSS) supporting technology insertion as well as development, integration, training and maintenance. USW-DSS is a DoD Net-Centric Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) program which provides anti-submarine warfare mission planning and monitoring for US Navy fleet units. This full-time position will be working out of Progeny Systems East Campus in Manassas, VA; remote work is possible and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The ideal candidate will work with a multi-organizational engineering team to bring forward creative and unique solutions that will enable the modernization and evolution of legacy models. The “cloud-native” landscape is rapidly advancing, and the DoD is eager to leverage the techniques, tools and platforms that have been industry-proven in recent years to accelerate and streamline capability integration and infrastructure development. The candidate will help the team overcome challenges related to the development of Infrastructure as Code and automated testing. The principle operational environments for USW-DSS include: Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, Red Hat Virtualization/oVirt and Kubernetes-based orchestration platforms, such as Red Hat Openshift and OKD.

Duties and Responsibilities

Areas of responsibility include:

• Work with team members to design and implement CI/CI pipeline elements (Jenkins Shared Libraries) to provide automated compilation, assembly and testing of containerized and non-containerized components
• Design and implement novel solutions to automate cloud-environment provisioning
• Maintain and optimize IaaS management software in support of Infrastructure as Code development systems and environments
• Mentor, train and coach junior engineers on modern cloud and DevSecOps practices
• Collaborate with application teams to promptly address their technical requirements and provide a reliable software delivery pipeline
• Implement secure engineering practices in deployment architecture such as data encryption and zero trust and Container scanning
• Author, maintain and review clear, quality software/system design artifacts and documentation
• Coordinate and interact with developers as well as engineering managers.
• Assess and support system maturation through agile processes, including:
• review of automated compilation, deployment and testing results
• requirements based and operational testing
• troubleshooting and writing software issue reports
• supporting the development team bug resolution efforts
• review and validation of fixes

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requirements:

• Experience with system/platform engineering
• Experience with Platform as a Service (PaaS) technologies: OCP/OKD
• Experience with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platforms: AWS, OpenStack
• Experience with Python, Bash, Go and/or Java
• Experience with Jenkins & Maven
• Must be willing to travel occasionally
• Ability to obtain DOD Security Clearance
• Strong oral and written communication skills

Desired Skills:

• Experience with system integration
• Experience with application, network, and infrastructure performance monitoring and analysis
• Experience with Linux networking and firewall configuration
• Experience with cyber-security concepts such as: chain-of-trust, secure operations, encryption (PKI), Authentication and Authorization (OIDC, JWTs, OAuth, SPIFFE)
• Familiarity with DoD Cybersecurity requirements and secure configuration guidelines such as DoD STIGs
• Proficiency with Atlassian Tools (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence)
• Current DoD Security Clearance

Education/Experience

· 5+ years of professional experience

· AS or higher in a technical major. Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field preferred. Commensurate pay for years of experience

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
