Job Description

Job Summary

The mechanical designer provides the business knowledge and technical skills to initiate, develop, give insight to, and review designs for proper use and conformance to PDA Standards and guidelines that benefit PDA programs and products.


  • Perform project management tasks on smaller parts of larger projects that System Engineers/Project Leads delegate to Mechanical Designers.
  • Communication Proficiency both written and oral.
  • Maintain a strong customer/client focus; analyze user needs and requirements
  • Applicants must be a “U.S. Persons” as defined in International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). A “U.S. Person” is a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or an individual who has been admitted as a refugee or granted asylum

  • Maintain and communicate status for all active projects


  • Developing designs staying within compliance with requirements (safety, quality, system, functional, materials, manufacturability, testing, time, cost, ...)
  • Generating and maintaining documentation to capture design
  • CAD modeling/assembly/drawing, and CAD PDM (CAD Product Data Management / CAD Library) proper use and storage of CAD data. Commonly used applications: Creo Parametric, Windchill, SolidWorks, Auto CAD, Simulation/FEA
  • Communicate with coworkers, customers, suppliers, etc. to discover, and develop requirements, working with Systems, and other groups (ILS)
  • Conduct, and participate in peer reviews, both internal, and with customers
  • Provides training and support to other team members
  • Discover and prevent potential issues
  • Work towards solutions for existing issues


  • Mechanical Drafting Degree, Associate in Mechanical Engineering, or another related degree.
  • Mechanical design and/or manufacturing experience, working in a team environment is preferred.
  • CAD part design, assembly, and drawing skills (in PTC Creo Parametric, and/or SolidWorks preferred)
