Senior Design Director:
Proctor is looking to welcome a Senior Design Director to our passionate, professional, yet fun team-based environment. Proctor designs, fabricates, and manages all types of custom trade show exhibits, experiential event activations & environments, mobile trailers & vehicles, and permanent installations. We are looking for a motivated individual with ample experience in 3D CAD, industrial design, and graphic design, who is a driven leader with a strong attention to detail and an interest in current technologies and techniques. This position is responsible for direct client communication, managing the team and entire creative process on a project from napkin sketch to finished design concepts, and working directly with sales, detailers/draftspeople, project management, and fabrication personnel to ensure the creative intent and scope of all work, from new creative to both past and current designs, is accurately realized through production. The ideal candidate will be creative, passionate, self-motivated, resourceful, communicative & driven to find creative solutions to complex problems.
Applicant’s primary task will be to lead the design team. To schedule, create and maintain client-facing creative and design & visualization in Adobe, 3ds Max, SketchUp, & other software as-needed. This task will include conducting creative review meetings (both internal team-facing & external client-facing), presenting conceived creative directly to clients, complete revisions to existing & new work, and ultimately prepare complete presentations which include multiple views, details, materials, and all visual information for each unique project regardless of scope. Additionally, the applicant will be required to utilize Teamwork (online project management software), Google Docs (or equivalent Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, etc.) and provide support to sales and detailing.
Primary Tasks & Responsibilities:
Create complete creative & design visuals from simple sketches to beautifully finished renderings.
Assist with Marketing direction on aesthetic for email campaigns and website
Manage creative client-facing work within Adobe, Autodesk (3dsMax, AutoCAD, Inventor, SketchUp) and Windows software.
Create, update and maintain 2D and 3D presentation files for trade show exhibits, experiential event activations & environments, mobile trailers & vehicles, and permanent installations, from design documents and input from Account Executives (salespeople), clients, and other Designers.
Utilize knowledge of modular exhibit systems and custom fabrication methods.
Open and manipulate existing design files.
Create new design files.
Assist in other creative, design, and sales functions such as, but not limited to: ideation, sketching, presentation, and research and development.
Function in a team environment proactively and productively.
Maintain a creative and productive workflow in accordance with expectations and requested schedules.
Prepare visual presentations, written scripts, scope of work details, as required for the clear communication of creative intent and salesmanship.
Contribute as a team member in multiple groups to produce a quality project for clients.
Education:
Minimum:
High School Diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED).
Associate’s Degree in Design or equivalent experience.
Preferred:
Design-related Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
Knowledge and Experience:
Expert level 3D CAD design skills in Adobe, Autodesk (3dsMax, AutoCAD, Inventor, SketchUp, etc.) .
High level of communication and presentation skills.
Management experience of one or more teammates.
Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10.
Have basic knowledge of Google Docs or equivalent (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
Have a solid understanding of the creative & design process.
Have understanding and working knowledge of basic fabrication techniques when it comes to working with plastic, wood, laminates, metal, fabrics, etc.
Having previous tradeshow, museum, and experiential event industry experience is a plus.
Key Competencies:
Work with Operations to schedule timelines.
Assist with opportunity review meetings in assessment of team bandwidth and scope.
Confident in communicating with the detailing and I&D department.
Expert-level 3D modeling in Autodesk’s 3ds Max and Sketchup.
Expert-level Adobe Creative Suite use.
Familiarity with Autodesk’s AutoCAD & Inventor.
Ability to translate passion into creative solutions for all types of problems.
Ability to produce excellent work quickly; speed, attention to detail, and accuracy are musts.
