Associate Actuary - Health Policy

Position Overview: 
The Associate Actuary will help design, manage and coordinate the actuarial evaluations of proposed laws and regulations across Centene’s lines of business (LOB) (e.g. Medicaid, Marketplace, Medicare, group, pharmacy, etc.). 

The Associate Actuary will report to the Vice President of Actuarial Services – Health Policy and work with the following teams:

Daily with the corporate Health Policy Team and actuaries from across Centene Periodically with the LOB Regulatory Operations and Product teams, and Government Relations teams

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Managing policy revenue, earnings and enrollment design and evaluation projects
  • Synthesizing, analyzing and modelling regulations and data to evaluate the impact to Centene and the market as a whole
  • Understanding at a high level and applying the fundamentals of several LOBs:
  • Laws and regulations
  • Market and political dynamics
  • Actuarial standards of practices
  • Traveling two times a quarter for one or two days each

Desired Skills and Characteristics:
  • Organized with strong project management skills to build consensus on the scope, timeline, and needed resources for evaluating policies
  • Critical reasoning ability to synthesize and analyze complex problems and data
  • Innovative thinker who can create new models and policies from basic principles 
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Expertise in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and  any of R, SAS, SPSS, SQL, or VBA  
  • Reliable, responsive, collaborative, personable, thoughtful and politically savvy

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience. 3+ years of actuarial experience. 
  • Pricing experience for Medicaid or Medicare to complement the VP of Actuarial Services – Health Policy’s expertise in individual, small group and provider contracting
  • License/Certification: Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) (or equivalent international certification)
