Job Description

Summary:           

The Quality Engineer role is responsible for maintaining and continuous improvement of Tinley Park’s quality assurance systems to uphold flawless standards of material quality, part conformance, and documentation completeness and accuracy. Specific tasks include evaluating processes, procedures, material, and equipment to ensure safety, reduce costs, save time, conserve resources, and eliminate part defects. Other expectations include superior problem-solving ability, customer service and communication skills, quality tracking, documentation and trend analysis, and familiarity with up-to-date industry quality systems and methods. The quality engineer reports directly to Tinley Park’s VP/GM and indirectly to the TP’s QA manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain thorough knowledge of application and use requirements for all Bellman-Melcor and Prince & Izant products.

  • Promotes safety and assists in the enforcement of PPE requirements for the manufacturing department.
  • Works directly with Tinley Park management to ensure effective implementation of quality management system requirements.
  • Helps manage supplier quality performance.
  • Leads/facilitates root cause analysis (i.e., 5 whys, 8D, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.) for internal, supplier, and customer- driven corrective actions.
  • Responsible for both internal and external product audits.
  • Manage and maintain the inspection of incoming raw materials and out-going finished product.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with ISO 9001, and other industry standards organizations as applicable.
  • Performs an analysis of rejected parts (internal and external) for appropriate disposition, and corrective action.
  • Utilizes statistical methods to determine quality improvement opportunities.
  • Prepares and presents QA reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data with recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs part and process capability studies.
  • Completes part layouts (metrology) and analyze prints utilizing GD&T.
  • Leads, where applicable, in continuous improvement efforts to enhance the quality system, such as 5S and Kaizen Lean methods.
  • Assists in the development and execution of quality related training programs.
  • Develops, maintains, and inspects manufacturing processes actively.
  • Measurement systems analysis (MSA) – Administrates Gauge R&R reports & training.
  • Assists in the development of company-wide work instructions & SOPs.

Qualifications:

  • Consistent high performer with demonstrated quality assurance capabilities.
  • Holds themselves and team members accountable for a high level of accuracy and detail.
  • Familiar with common metrology tools and procedures.
  • Exhibits knowledge of quality control procedures and statistical analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to acquire, assimilate, and analyze data from multiple systems and data sources using a variety of business intelligence and reporting tools.
  • Ability to put structure and discipline around defined processes.
  • Capable of applying engineering theory to product design and revision.
  • Close attention to detail, works efficiently and demonstrates ability to multitask.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively and professionally on all levels.
  • Able to translate technical engineering concepts to layman’s terms for the purposes of presentations.
  • Experience within the Automotive, HVAC/R, or similar industries a plus
  • Bilingual (Spanish) – preferred but not required

Education:

  • Associates Degree or higher within engineering, management, or quality field of study
  • 1-2 years in a Manufacturing Quality or Engineering position
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry. Familiarity with ISO standards is preferred.
  • Experience working with ERP software.
  • Experience in the applications of GD&T.
  • Total Quality Management or American Society for Quality certification is preferred. ASQ CQE (recommended)
  • Experience in Lean Initiatives. Six Sigma certification is desired.
  • Ongoing professional development through attendance and conferences once hired is expected.

Travel:

This position may require up to 10% travel, some of which may be international.
