Associate Director for Emergent Worship and Youth Music
Purpose: Supports the Church by providing weekly worship leadership, oversight, and management for various emergent and youth music opportunities at PHPC. These responsibilities include the Worship@5 worship service, * special music offerings, music leadership during weekly chapel worship with the PHPS school and cultivation of youth music involvement at the church.
*The Worship@5 service and accompanying emergent worship opportunities at PHPC follows the Reformed worship tradition. The music style is folk based, unplugged, and singer/songwriter in style. It frequently includes music from the folk, bluegrass, gospel, and folk-rock styles and instrumentation from professional guitar, piano, vocalists, banjo, cello, and violin. Accountability: The Associate Director for Emergent Worship and Youth Music shall be directly responsible to the Senior Associate Pastor for Adult Learning and Engagement and the Staff Committee. The Senior Associate Pastor for Adult Learning and Engagement will review the performance of the Associate Director for Emergent Worship and Youth Music in accordance with procedures established by the Staff Committee.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include worship leadership, oversight, and management for PHPC’s Sunday Worship@5 worship service, music leadership during weekly chapel for the PHPS school, and cultivation of youth music involvement at the church. This individual is a person who is spiritually alive, theologically awake, and enthusiastic about sharing music opportunities as a ministry of the church from the heart and soul.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Music Leader for Worship@5 Service(s):
a. Leadership, oversight, and management for PHPC’s Sunday Worship@5 service with availability to play in the morning and/or evening worship times.
b. Choose, arrange, coordinate, and communicate musical offerings for weekly Sunday Worship@5 service
c. Recruit, direct, and cultivate ensemble of hired and volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists, including coordinating with musicians on scheduling of rehearsals, worship services, planning, and payment.
d. Participate in weekly (Tuesday) staff and worship planning meetings
e. Cultivate and populate Worship@5 Spotify playlists in collaboration with sermon series or liturgical season
f. Work in collaboration with PHPC communications to keep the Worship@5 webpage up to date and promote emergent worship opportunities through the church’s social media channels.
g. Serve as a member of the Worship@5 planning team quarterly gatherings to plan and vision for upcoming seasons and ministry offerings.
· Special Services:
a. Plan, coordinate, and perform musical offerings for special worship services in coordination with PHPC’s Director of Music, such as Maundy Thursday, Blue Christmas, Easter Sunrise, Services of Wholeness and Healing, and the Children’s Christmas Eve worship service and Christmas Eve communion service, etc.
· Music Leader for Youth and Families
a. In coordination with the Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults, lead and cultivate youth music involvement at the church including but not limited to
b. Lead and organize the PHPC youth band
c. Plan, manage, and lead weekly youth band practice sessions, 3-4 monthly worship band leadership during Worship in the House, and annual youth Sunday worship service.
· Pastoral Care:
a) Regularly offers pastoral care to individuals in the various worship music ensembles under their leadership.
· Attend meetings, quarterly visioning and planning Worship@5 meetings.
- Execute other requests made by the Senior Pastor and/or the Executive Team.
