This position is a hybrid, full time role in La Jolla, California

Who Makes a Highly Successful Consultant?

As the Financial Business Analyst for Plumb, you will work directly with our division leaders and accounting team to optimize our current systems, evaluate information to assess current needs, and devise reports. From researching progressive systems solutions to evaluating their impacts, our ideal candidate is a detailed planner, expert communicator, and top-notch analyst.

We are looking for team members to join our proactive, solution-focused community. To be successful in this role, you should be: adept at solving complex problems in real-time, have an ability to translate data into actionable insights, and possess excellent communication skills. Other responsibilities include efficiency improvement, risk management, developing customized reports and dashboards, and optimizing the use of Sage Intacct. If you possess 2+ years of experience with financial models, conducting benchmarking and process analysis to develop customized reports, and a strong proficiency in Excel, we encourage you to read on.

Job Description: Initial Duties

This position will report directly to the President and is defined by two primary objectives:

Financial Analysis (internal)- Working with division leaders and the accounting team as follows:

  • Existing Reporting Needs: Work with Division Managers and personnel to identify the information they currently need and develop customized reports for them.
  • Optimize the use of SAGE Intacct: Create dashboards with managers and their teams to provide regular feedback on business performance (utilization, collections, billings, etc.). Evaluate, analyze, and communicate trends on a continuing basis, including the delivery of monthly status reports to all appropriate parties.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct a detailed financial analysis of our internal financial package at the guidance of our president, Rob Scherer. Consult with management to guide and influence long term and strategic decision making based upon trends and market research.
  • Assist with additional process improvement and policy development initiatives as they arise.

Business Analysis- Bill Pay and Family Office Divisions:

  • Standardize Ongoing Existing Reporting
  • Custom Ongoing Existing Reporting
  • New Accounting and Reporting Activities
  • Task Based Incentive System: Work with team to develop a new performance-based incentive system based on task accomplishment rather than hours worked.
  • New initiatives and projects as they arise.

Job Description: Future / Bigger Picture

Professional development is a priority for us at Plumb and we feel it is important to provide context regarding how this position will grow and develop over time. Here is our vision for this role long-term:

  • Budgeting: Work with Controller and Division Managers to prepare and update annual/quarterly budgets.
  • Efficiency Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline operations within divisions and teams as we implement innovative technology that automates activities for associates.
  • Benchmark: Identify external sources for Plumb to benchmark ourselves against and learn, implement initiatives to improve.
  • Risk Management: Create reporting which outlines our exposure (collections exposure, client concentration issues, etc.).
  • Forecasting: In addition to forecasting, create a 12-month rolling forecast to identify trends. Provide creative alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
