Job Description

Plan A Health, Inc is a nonprofit organization focused on improving access to free health care in the Mississippi Delta with a focus on women’s health. We operate two free clinics - a mobile unit and a brick and mortar space - and are seeking to hire an experienced, licensed nurse practitioner to join our team (learn about our work here: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/03/18/mississippi-delta-plan-a-mobile-health-clinic-00007251)

The mobile unit is focused on Bolivar, Washington, Leflore, Holmes, and Sunflower counties. Our brick and mortar office is in Humphreys county, where services will be provided at minimum one time per month.

Project duties will include recording medical histories, performing physical exams, administering diagnostic tests, blood draws, administering medication (family planning) and creating care plans. The NP will be working with a remote supervisory physician. The clinic is also staffed with community health workers.

Responsibilities

  • Patient intake including medical histories
  • Performing physical exams
  • Ordering, administering, and analyzing diagnostic tests
  • Insertion and removal of LARCs (training available as needed)
  • Pap smears
  • Monitoring and operating medical equipment and inventory
  • Diagnosing health issues
  • Administering medicine and other treatments
  • Consulting with healthcare professionals
  • Health education
  • Community outreach
  • Develop and nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners including hospitals and clinics
  • Represent the organization with key stakeholders at the operational level. Facilitate communication between organization and community on the purposes, services, and impact of the clinic.
  • Facilitate health education and conversations with individuals and groups. Candidate should be comfortable speaking to a group of 5-25 people.
  • Provide culturally competent health education with compassion, humility, and respects the dignity and autonomy of the person. Deliver care in a way that honors the dignity of each person especially those who have been marginalized, such as people of color, immigrants, and LGBTQI+ persons.

Requirements

  • Masters degree from an accredited nursing school
  • RN and APN licensure and authorization in Mississippi
  • The candidate must be a resident of the Mississippi Delta
  • Experience providing care as a family or women’s health nurse practitioner
  • Trained and experienced in provision of reproductive and sexual health services.
  • Prescriptive authorization
  • Proficiency with medical instruments and equipment
  • Ability to work in and navigate EMR systems in a timely fashion
  • The ideal candidate will have talent for brainstorming new ideas and solutions and turning them into action. We are a small team and the person in this role should have a collaborative spirit willing to help fellow team members to support patients.
  • A commitment to reproductive justice, contraceptive equity, and comprehensive sex education.
  • Ability to work in close quarters with staff and patients aboard a mobile clinic. Ability to walk up and down stairs into the clinic. Ability to lift 15-20 lb.
  • Driver’s license (will be reimbursed for gas and mileage or assigned a company car).
  • The candidate must possess a working knowledge of the Mississippi Delta and the local community, including familiarity with local history, organizations, agencies, region, and systems. Candidates must be familiar with local population demographics, health care disparities, assets, and needs.
  • Flexibility to work evenings (maximum 5 times per month), early mornings (maximum 2 times per month), and weekends (1-2 days per month) is required.
  • On days when the nurse practitioner is not actively providing clinical care, there may be the opportunity to work from home
