Our client, a global developer, manufacturer and marketer of pre-moistened wipes for the consumer market, specializing in personal care, hygiene, household cleaning and disinfection products. is seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer for their Jonesboro, AR location

The Senior Packaging Engineer will be supporting The Client's projects working within the R&D Packaging / Innovation Development Team. This position will develop, lead and execute R&D plans and protocols to launch new products. The position will lead R&D package innovation & development activities, ensuring milestones are met. Identify technical and project risks and ensure strategies are developed to effectively mitigate these risks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Understands packaging-related business needs and competitive landscape

o Drive for excellence in project management and technical leadership in packaging programs from pre-concept initiation through hand-off and commercialization

o Develops ideas, concepts and prototypes to solve problems and meet customer/consumer needs in new and superior ways

o Research packaging materials and determine the most cost effective and quality packaging available

o Identifies needs gaps and opportunities

• Leads the packaging development for new initiatives

o Technical interface with suppliers

o Develop timelines, risk assessment and contingency plans to ensure execution on projects

o Identifies technical and project risks and ensures strategies are in place to effectively mitigate risks

o Support new plant trials for packaging materials/project work, working with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Procurement, Business Development, Production, Supply Chain and Quality)

o Properly plan, coordinate and report each trial, provide appropriate level of technical support and troubleshooting to execute trial objectives and ensure proper documentation of each activity

o Design, plan and conduct analytical testing, line trials and package performance testing

o Documenting technical project work and trial activity in timely manner

• Develops line trial protocols and writes trial reports, SOP’s and specifications

o Identifies key quality attributes for packaging components

o Works with plant associates to gain alignment to specifications

o Perform packaging testing and analyze results to determine if packaging meets standards

o Develops, writes and validates test methods to evaluate performance of packaging prototypes

o Examine quality issues with packaging and work with suppliers to correct issues

• Provides guidance and direction to junior scientists

o Ensures their activity is aligned to project milestones

o Be point of contact for all packaging related questions

o Trains new hires on test methods and departmental SOPs

• Plans own workload to ensure tasks and objectives are completed and collaborates as a participative team member to ensure R&D milestones are met

o Makes and supervises production of samples for marketing presentations, laboratory evaluation, consumer and clinical testing.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

BS (Packaging degree preferred, MS a plus) or equivalent work experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Advanced technical knowledge of consumer packaging, e.g., flexible films, rigid containers/injection molding, cartons, and corrugated;

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Seven years plus relevant CPG experience in packaging development; previous experience in wipes packaging advantageous; developing and launching innovative packaging solutions; Familiar with prototyping techniques such as 3-D printing; plant/equipment experience

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Strong interpersonal communication skills; autonomous work ethic; teamwork mentality; excellent project management skills; demonstrated ability to lead technical teams; able to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple projects of varying complexity; strong problem-solving skills and independence

• Computer skills- MS Office, Tops, Cape, CAD

Ability to travel domestically - 10-20%
