Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant works with the accounting team to accurately complete accounting procedures including month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial statement analysis, and job costing. Produces analyzes and communicates findings of both financial and non-financial data to department heads to proactively provide guidance that will improve company profitability, trust, and morale. Assists the Controller, CFO, and Accounting Staff with various projects and general accounting tasks as needed.
Essential Functions:
Support the Controller to ensure financial reporting, policies and procedures, cash management, asset management, accounts payable, revenue and accounts receivable, compliance monitoring, and financial controls are consistent with organization and GAAP
Perform month-end close functions, including the preparation of various journal entries and reconciliation of trade accounts
Assist with year-end closing and annual external audit
Accurately book required journal entries
Perform reconciliation and auditing tasks to assist in the generation of financial reports
Assist in the annual budgeting process
Communicate effectively with all members of the company
Assist CFO and Controller with ad hoc analysis
Works on special projects and other duties as assigned
Identifies opportunities for improvement and provides information and recommendations to management
Assists with payroll accounts payable, and accounts receivable as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Reconciliation skills (data analysis, comparison, resolution)
Excellent consultative and communication skills (oral and written) and ability to interface effectively with all levels within the organization
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), knowledge of ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics AX) and Power BI, SQL preferred but not required
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Individual communication (effective listening, coaching, and problem-resolving).
Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to provide creative solutions to real-time challenges
Systems & procedures development and analysis.
Must be a self-starter and detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
The ability to complete projects timely and accurately is critical
Minimum Requirements:
- Four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
- 1-2 years of Accounting or Finance experience
- Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Advanced training and experience in spreadsheets and databases
