We are seeking a Paralegal / Legal Assistant to become a part of our team! You will provide overall support to attorneys' business needs. This is not a job for faint of heart as we are an extremely busy boutique law firm focused on the DEFENSE of commercial, insurance and trucking entities.Employment in a small law firm presents a unique set of advantages that make it quite different from working in a large law firm or other practice setting.
The cozy, adaptable environment of the small law firm lends itself to more flexible work schedules among lawyers and staff. Because staff is limited, attorneys and paralegals perform more substantive legal tasks with less supervision than mega-firm counterparts. As a small law firm, our paralegals are given the opportunity to put into practice a mix of skills that include a wide range of skill levels. For example, a litigation paralegal may interview a witness, communicate with clients, train a co-worker on a new database and research a legal issue within the same one-hour block of time.
The most successful paralegals are able to think flexibly, prioritize assignments and balance the demands of multiple supervisors and clients.Responsibilities:Conduct research to support legal proceedingsAssist with the drafting and reviewing of legal documentsInvestigate facts to help in the negotiation of legal disputesMonitor and ensure compliance with state and federal regulationsRecord and store client informationAssist attorneys in managing litigation, designing and implementing databases for managing, sorting, indexing and abstracting large volumes of data produced in litigation?Qualifications:Previous experience as a paralegal or other legal field is preferred, but this is NOT set in stone as I have discovered that attitude and work ethic are much better qualifications than experienceFamiliarity with CenterBase case management and billing software is preferred, but general familiarity with organizational databases, timekeeping and various software is necessaryFamiliarity with legal research is preferredAbility to prioritize and multitask is essential to maintain the flow and organization of litigationExcellent written and verbal communication skills (don't even apply if you don't have efficient typing skills as well as grammar and spelling excellence.Deadline and detail-orientedResponsible to produce at least 100 hours per month in billable time
