Vice Principal of Culture

The Vice Principal of Culture is responsible for ensuring that all students achieve at high levels. This role requires donning many caps. The Vice Principal is a member of the school's leadership team and is also a key member of the Cultural Leadership Teams. They work with teachers, parents, and students to establish a strong, achievement-centered culture; ensure the functionality of school-wide systems that support student achievement, safety, efficiency, and People's Prep's core values; and ensure that the high expectations we have for our students are maintained in each classroom. Like all of the school's employees, the Vice Principal should demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of People's Prep.
Qualifications and Personal Characteristics
- Master's degree required
- Minimum five years of urban school-based experience
- Minimum two years of urban school-based leadership
- Demonstrated ability to coach or lead adults in the workplace
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience communicating with diverse audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to continue to develop deficits in self and others for the benefit of students, families, and team
- Spanish language skills helpful
- A demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap
- Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail
- Openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility
- Proven willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure student success and safety
- Comfort with ambiguity
Responsibilities
- Provide classroom management-related coaching and modeling to instructors toward the goal of improving outcomes for students.
- Support the Principal, and Vice Principals of Instruction with formal and informal teacher and council coach evaluations.
- Assist in the management of the deans. This includes weekly one-on-one meetings, goal setting, feedback, practice, and evaluation.
- Formally supervise, observe, and evaluate a cohort of teachers and staff.
- Work closely with the Associate Deans and Student Intervention Team to lead the organization's efforts that students are attending school regularly and to analyze correlations between student attendance, behavior, and academic achievement.
- Cooperate with instructional and guidance teams to implement student supports and interventions.
- Seek out and provide resources for teachers.
- Build strong relationships with parents, students, and teachers and create investment around attendance, homework, school culture initiatives, and overall student success.
- Ensure the consistent and fair administration of student conduct and discipline policies.
- Closely collaborate with school leaders to maintain a positive, safe, and college-going school culture.
- Collaborate with other employees to organize, schedule, and complete Home Visits for all incoming students.
- Team with other employees to organize and manage New Student Orientation and Launch Bridge Program in August for all incoming students.
- Be available via phone and/or email throughout the evening and weekend to communicate with families and school leaders.
- Collaborate with other employees to organize and manage school events like awards ceremonies, enrollment nights, school productions, and Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Plan weekly Community Meetings for the entire school community and lead a group of student leaders in the execution of these events.
- Complete other tasks that may be assigned by the Principal and/or leadership team members in a timely manner.
