Position Description: People USA -Per Diem Peer Specialist in Glen Falls, NY ( Rose House)
People USA will provide particpants with a Peer Specialist who will provide people living with mental health, addiction, or social determinant of health issues with peer advocacy & support services. Using the mutuality of shared lived experiences, the Peer Specialists will help people get started on and continue their own positive pathways to behavioral health and wellness.As educators, they will explore with people new ways to improve their behavioral health and overall well-being.
As advocates, they will resolve any issues people are having obtaining quality services that meet their needs.As peers, they will connect people to others (including staff themselves) who have similar lived experiences, and who can understand and support them.
As connectors, they will directly link people - using warm handoffs - with other useful health and wellness resources in the community - services, supports, and resources (following a psychiatric rehabilitation model).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Peer Specialist will prioritize, whenever possible, individuals identified through these programs for participation in all of the services and programs outlined above, providing quick access and quality service.
The Peer Specialist will work in full collaboration and coordination with all agencies and individuals who are partnering in the Cares Act The Peer Specialist will represent the peer perspective (i.e., persons with lived experiences with behavioral health challenges).
The Peer Specialist will, if funding is available, apply to provide (a) consulting services, or (b) direct peer services to any part of the initiative that requires dedicated attention and/or staffing.
Must have personal lived experience with trauma, mental health, or substance abuse history.
Must have personal transportation.
Positions may be asked to work Holidays.
REQUIREMENTS:
Honesty, respect for diversity, high personal standards, language, and behaviors reflecting such values.Demonstrated ability to recognize the need for and facilitate connections between consumers and the community.Understanding of available community supports.Working knowledge of confidentiality requirements related to records pertaining to Mental Health and Chemical Dependency laws.Must have good time management skills and be self-directing.Must have reliable transportation.High School Diploma Required.QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years in recovery from acute care environment Completion of the Academy of Peer Services Training and the ability to obtain the NY State Peer Specialist Certification.A shared vision of hope for people experiencing a crisis Work or Volunteer experience providing peer support, advocacy, or human services.
