Overview
The Medical Billing Clerk will process, bill, and follow up on Medicaid, Medicare, or Commercial Insurance (MMCI) for Durable Medical Equipment, review remittance advice forms to verify proper reimbursement, and assist with general accounting needs as necessary.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Checks to ensure that medical paperwork includes all information required for MMCI reimbursement
- Verifies correct medical coding to ensure prompt payment
- Inputs correct billing information and transmits electronically to MMCI's
- Consults with MMCI offices about disputed claims and follows up on bills to ensure timely response
- Reviews remittance advice forms to determine any adjustments needed on bills submitted
- Consults with MMCI office
- Authorizes or adjusts Durable Medical Equipment bills to correct errors
- Communicates and recommend improvements based on billing trends
- Attends training to keep abreast of changes in Medicaid billing procedures
- Continuously seek and follows up on opportunities to expand our network into additional insurance carriers
- Performs general bookkeeping work, which may include accounts receivable, accounts payable, and invoicing
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
- High School diploma required
- Minimum 2 years Medical Billing experience is required
- Accounting/bookkeeping experience is preferred
- Extensive knowledge of common software programs such as Microsoft Office
- Extensive knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within industry
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong decision making and organizational skills
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
- Strong multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally, and provide exceptional service, both internally and externally at all times
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Medical billing certification preferred

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person or by telephone. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may sit for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
