We are seeking scientific and business talent at two of our critical sites that include our center of research excellence in Palo Alto, California and our G&A infrastructure in South Florida.

Peak Bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on commercializing innovative therapeutics that aim to improve and address significant unmet medical needs for patients with inflammatory, rare and specialty diseases and cancer. We seek qualified, energetic, and talented individuals with a desire for growth and advancement but with a knack for working in a cross-cultural, team-based environment.

As a company we will continue to explore, work closely with and partner with external researchers, clinicians, patient advocacy groups, academic institutions, governmental agencies, and our investors to continue to expand treatment options and partnerships to meet those expectations and find novel approaches to treat disease.

This is a full-time position based in our Miami, Florida office, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.

The CFO will play a critical role in driving the future of our business, working with the leadership team and Board of Directors while leading and building a high-performance finance and accounting team that can execute the company’s vision for growth.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Represent the company to business partners, analysts, investors, including financial institutions and auditors
  • Support or lead capital raising, M&A and/or corporate partnering activities to enable the company to meet growth objectives
  • Build and oversee the finance and accounting function; develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting
  • Participate in supplier contract negotiation and cost reduction planning
  • Set annual financial performance standards and budgets and manage against the annual budget, prior year results and the company’s long-term strategy
  • Develop and implement tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information and make actionable recommendations to leadership team and board on both strategy and operations
  • Prepare for and participate/present in Board meetings
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the company’s strategic plans
  • Direct and manage stock option plan and capitalization table
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures for the company for a publicly traded company

Desired Abilities and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, Management or similar is required, MBA and CPA valued
  • 20 years’ experience in an operational/analytical or strategic/technical problem- solving financial leadership position
  • Experience in Life Sciences (Biotech, Pharma, Med Device, or Health IT)  Finance, or Banking
  • Public company CFO experience within the Life Sciences (Biotech/Pharma/Med Device), Finance or Banking industries
  • Experience in all stages of Biotech growth; full knowledge/understanding of GAAP, SEC reporting and SOX compliance
  • Prominent voice in investor relations and communications with the strong ability to communicate the company’s story to investors and the Board
  • Proven track record of capital fundraising, originating and closing equity deals, and established active potential financing sources
  • Experience with mergers, acquisitions and partnering activities
  • Strong leadership skills, focusing on both technical, and strategic approaches throughout organization
  • Key player in culture development to support organizational expansion
  • A record of demonstrated success in building and managing a high-performance finance function, with proven experience meeting the demands of early-stage and publicly traded life science organizations
  • Experience as both a strategic thought leader to help drive corporate initiatives and a willingness and ability to switch to hands-on leader as necessary
  • The ability to rapidly integrate into an organization, build relationships with key constituencies (CEO, management, Board, investors, and existing Finance team members), evaluate business processes / functions, and make necessary changes
  • Passionate about building and growing within a start-up company
  • Independent and strategic leadership skills with strong focus on business growth
  • Experience and interest in managing the Treasury function
