Job Description

 

Supports case management, outreach, and overall program operations by providing direct engagement assistance to staff members, community partners and veterans. In addition to providing support to veteran families by providing COVID-19 information, the Intake Care Specialist will also gather and disseminate basic information from callers in order to connect them to appropriate Veterans Multi- Service Center (VMC) staff or other agencies, programs and immediate crisis support. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

▪ Reports directly to Intake Care Supervisor 

▪ Provides basic screening for program eligibility utilizing appropriate forms 

▪ Distributes program outreach information to callers including COVID information 

▪ Distributes appropriate referral information to callers 

▪ Provides critical information and connects callers appropriately to Veterans Crisis Line, local law enforcement, etc. 

▪ Ensures documentation of calls/shift activity and transmits in a timely fashion to appropriate VMC program staff 

▪ Maintains strict client confidentiality in accordance with federal, state and local laws and compliance guidelines QUALIFICATIONS: 

▪ Formal education in mental health field or psychology/social work-related field, preferred (can also include family communications, health coaching, community/public health or another related subject). NOTE: This is a non-clinical role and does not require a license 

▪ Ability to work weekends and evenings 

▪ Previous call center environment experience preferred 

▪ Previous call center experience is required with a demonstrated pattern of success 

▪ Crisis intervention and/or mental health information and referral services experience a plus 

▪ Preferred knowledge in substance abuse and/or recovery sector 

▪ Requires organization and distribution of information, problem-solving skills 

▪ Ability to sympathize with callers, while effectively describing the benefits of our programs 

▪ Basic PC & Internet skills required 

▪ Accuracy and follow-up are essential in this role 

▪ Previous customer service experience or related position 

▪ Superb interpersonal communication 

▪ Effective listening and organizational skills 

▪ Ability to manage multiple tasks, setting priorities where needed 

▪ Independently problem solve, with ability to function without constant supervision 

▪ A demonstrated ability to type effectively; with strong PC skills/word processing experience and ability to learn new computer software systems 

▪ Bilingual skills a plus
