Job Description
This is a hourly, part-time position.
Qualifications:
We are seeking a part-time Veteran and Military Affairs Specialist that reports to the Director of Transfer Services, Veteran and Military Affairs. This person will assist with the development and delivery of services for Veterans, Active Duty, Reservists and Eligible Dependents attending Passaic County Community College. The part-time Veteran and Military Affairs Specialist will serve as an additional School Certifying Official for the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) and assist the Director in certifying and monitoring student enrollment each semester.
This is a hourly, part-time position.
Examples of Duties:
- Assist with the overall operations of Veteran and Military Affairs, including development and implementation of veteran’s programs, services and certification
- Serve as a point of contact for prospective and current students using military education benefits, monitor the Veteran and Military Affairs email account and respond to inquiries
- Facilitate the flow of information to and among members of the military/veteran community through monthly email newsletters
- Advise veterans, service members and eligible dependents and make appropriate referrals to support and enhance students’ educational and personal growth
- Complete required annual training for School Certifying Officials through DVA
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree required
- Military experience preferred
- Sensitivity to the needs of the student population of an urban community college
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and interpersonally
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
