General Summary:

Serves as the lead clinician for counseling and therapy interventions on an Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT). Provides direct counseling/therapy for co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions and supervises non-licensed counseling aides in delivery of treatment in group and individual formats in clinic and community settings. Implements an evidence-based, stage-wise treatment curriculum focused on persons with a serious mental illness and co-occuring substance disorders. Works as a collaborating ACT team member to assess service member needs, , participate in the development of individual service plans, and provide advocacy and supports for service members, their families and involved community agencies. Provides on-call crisis intervention services, as well as weekend and holiday coverage on an established schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Works as part of a ACT/clinical team to facilitate recovery and inspire hope for service members while supporting their achievement of service plan goals.

1) Establishes therapeutic relationships with service participants for the purpose of reaching appropriate treatment goals and maintains professional relationships with clinical care teams and medical staff, involved family members/guardians, and external customers.

2) Develops stage-wise assessments and service plans for integrated co-occurring interventions consistent with evidence based program standards. Conducts regular reviews of progress and provides status updates to the ACT team. Identifies and implements program strategies for non-responders.

3) Provides direct treatment services for co-occurring conditions including screening, assessment, engagement, persuasion, active treatment and relapse prevention interventions in group and individual formats.

4) Provides clinical oversight and coaching support to other team members delivering treatment interventions for substance use conditions. Provides education to the full ACT team on the effects of substance use on psychiatric conditions and delivers periodic training in stage-wise assessment and treatment strategies.

5) Assumes “primary contact” responsibility for a smaller portion of service members to assure accurate, thorough, and current documentation in the medical record and consistent therapeutic contact for these members. Maintains a weekly client schedule for this group and serves as first contact for those service members and their families. May provide or arrange transportation on an as needed basis to support primary contact member service needs.

6) Participates in daily ACT Team meetings as well as any additional individual treatment teams or other team communication meetings as required.

7) Collaborates with the full ACT Team to implement, support and improve team performance consistent with evidence-based ACT fidelity measures.

8) Documents all services and member incidents consistent with PIR policy and company standards.

Skills/ Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

•Master’s degree in a behavioral health related field.

Licensures: Licensed as a Behavioral Health Professional through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners as a current associate or independent level of licensure in the discipline of counseling, social work, substance abuse and/or marriage and family counseling. LPC, LCSW, LAC, LISAC accepted.

Valid AZ State Driver’s License, vehicle with state minimum insurance coverage and able to meet PIR company driving requirements.
