Job Description

Full-time Medical Assistant; with 2 years of ambulatory experience and phlebotomy skills is needed for a community health center in northwest Baltimore. Bi-lingual preferred. Will assist providers with routine patient care and procedures, and communicate patient-related care issues to providers and nurse managers. The clinical duties of the Medical Assistant have a multi-purpose function. The Medical Assistant will be cross trained to perform activities from performing registration and appointments to administering and documenting immunization shots.

Other duties include:

  • Ensure that the patient flow is fluid and constant
  • Ensure that the supplies are stocked
  • Performs screening questionnaires when designated – TB, hearing, lead, vision, and cholesterol screening

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the ambulatory practice functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. The CMA has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment. The CMA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when performing patient care. The CMA reports to the clinic manager or lead nurse, who is responsible for the administrative supervision and orientation of the CMA to the area’s policies and procedures. The CMA obtains vital signs, assists patient in preparation for examination/ procedure, records and documents in the medical record, ensures safe & efficient patient flow, administers medications and immunizations, and organizes the clinic environment to assure patient safety. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions at the highest level based on scope of practice.

Performs clerical duties as assigned, which includes the completing and routing referrals to managed care, when appropriate, making appointments and/ or registering patients, sending out abnormal lab letters after ordering the charts and having the providers review the charts for follow-up. This also includes No Show letters and all other duties specific to each department.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $19.99 per hour
