Job Description

Paradigm ( is an Energy Services Company providing energy efficiency solutions to the owners and operators of multifamily and commercial buildings in Massachusetts. We develop, design, build, and finance solutions for utilities, agencies and building owners, with extensive experience in affordable housing. We are a growing organization, and we have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and energetic Controller to help facilitate our continued growth. This role will report to the CEO and work closely with the General Manager and management team. The ideal candidate will have primary responsibility for the execution of the day-to-day financial operations of the business, management of a staff accountant, support the strategic direction of the business, and tackle important projects that come up. In addition to the close process and payroll, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in other projects as Paradigm grows, including acquisition integration, system implementations, and process improvements. You will be able to work independently and thrive on collaborating with others to achieve common goals.

As our business expands, we expect the Controller to bring both a short term and long-term perspective to problems and rise to the challenges growth brings. Whether it is implementing or improving financial processes and controls, ensuring information is accurate and reported timely, or acting as a critical support player to senior leadership, your subject matter expertise will be incredibly impactful.

Core Responsibilities:

· Be our financial leader – support our leadership team on planning and business strategy while being integral in key business relationships (banking, external accounting, insurance, HR)

· Maintain company general ledger including monthly and annual closes

· Bi-weekly salary and weekly hourly payroll

· Monthly and annual finance forecasting, budgeting, banking, and business financing

· Supervising and continuing to develop our senior staff accountant (AP/AR/Inventory management)

· Benefits Administrator

· Assist with other activities and duties as directed by leadership

Primary Duties:

· Responsible for accurate and timely month, quarter, and year end accounting close process

o Ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance, and research and resolve discrepancies and issues

o Produce supporting schedules and analysis, and produce financial reports & statements (trends, performance metrics, benchmarks)

o Review of P&L accounts to solve classification issues

· Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations

· Process and review accounts payable as needed

· Company banking as it relates relationship management (with CEO) and administration

· Design and prepare budgets for review with management

· Review and reconcile all tax obligations including state income tax and sales/use tax

· Work with staff accountant to manage AR, AP, and inventory, including cycle counts

· Provide year end, insurance, and any other audit support as required

· Work with management to help develop information flows and policies, procedures, and controls

· Company payroll including interaction with payroll company, new employee set up/removal and 401K administration/remittance

· Identify and work to obtain cost reductions

· Assist with specific projects such as system implementations and updates, business process improvements and reporting

· Provide operational support to company as needed

· Provide Ad-Hoc Reporting and Analysis as necessary

Additional Skills and Experience:

· Desire to dig in and ‘own the process’

· Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes and an understanding of how materials and records flow through an operation

· Solid knowledge of GAAP and regulations

· Understanding of data analysis and forecasting

· Ability to interact with all levels of the organization

· Strong interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills

· Demonstrated ability to identify problems and correct before they become significant

· Detail oriented, well organized and with effective collaboration methods

· Excellent leadership, planning and team building skills

· Demonstrated records of success in positions of increasing responsibility

· Reputation for financial acumen, business judgement, and analytical ability

· Human resource experience is a big plus

· Proven ability to multitask and juggle multiple shifting priorities while staying organized and focused in a fast-paced environment

Education and Experience:

· 8+ years of experience in an accounting role

· Four-year degree with concentration in Accounting or Finance

· Strong GL reconciliation and audit experience

· Prior experience with benefits and payroll a plus

· QuickBooks experience a plus

· Proficient in MS Office with strong Excel skills

· Experience in Construction a plus
