Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE: Direct, administer and manage all aspects of PVGC operations to provide quality services and enjoyment to Club Members and guests. Takes leadership responsibility for establishing, coordinating and implementing annual operating and CIF budget and long range planning, as defined and approved by the Board of Directors, with results that meet or exceed the highest possible standards for golf course playing conditions, food and beverage quality and service, membership, merchandising, fitness, social activities, events, and overall Member satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a work schedule which allows for visibility and accessibility to Members, guests, and staff during operating hours
  • Provide quality leadership and a positive, upbeat image for PVGC and its amenities
  • Develop, maintain and administer a sound organizational plan
  • Ensure the smooth, efficient daily operation of PVGC to provide Members and guests with the environment for which the Club is renowned
  • Ensure members experience premier services in dining, golfing, quality products, and an exciting and innovative calendar of events
  • Oversee a first-class food and beverage operation, with properly priced appealing menus and featuring consistent and excellent service; ensure and promote the development of creative special events
  • Address and resolve Member and guest complaints and suggestions, particularly in such areas as general service, dining, employee attitude, maintenance, and cosmetic appearance of the facility
  • Ensure compliance with all PVGC rules and regulations and report infractions to the Board of Directors or the appropriate committee chair
  • Oversee the marketing and membership relations program to promote service and facilities to potential and present members
  • Serve as the liaison between all management staff and the Board of Directors
  • Work with Human Resources to establish and enforce basic personnel policies relating to personnel actions, training and professional development
  • Coordinate with the Board of Directors, HR Committee, and relevant committee chairs on all department head hiring, termination, compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, discipline, and other significant personnel actions
  • Work with the Controller and Finance Committee to prepare annual operating and capital budgets and provide monthly budget updates to appropriate Committees
  • Provide input to all department heads and key personnel projecting and developing budgets, capital spending plans, fiscal controls, and operational guidelines; oversee all departments' compliance with approved budgets
  • Approve all contracts, accounts payable, labor cost payouts, and maintain them within the constraints of the budgets and through close coordination with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Perform competitive analyses on clubs and other businesses as well as critical performance indices leading to financial success
  • Develop ongoing dialogue and rapport with PVGC Members through recognition, communication, and follow through; ensure satisfactory communications between Members and employees
  • Ensure the timely publication of a high quality member newsletter
  • Keep the Board of Directors and appropriate committee chairs informed of all significant or potentially significant operating matters and problem areas
  • Oversee, coordinate and recommend strategies for all facets of Club renovation projects including, but not limited to, attending meetings with governmental entities and working with present and potential partners and contractors
  • Participate in all short and long range planning activities; provide on-going continuity from year to year, and board to board, on all such plans and programs
  • Consult with the Board of Directors and department heads on policy changes in the operations of each department; suggest changes and direct the implementation of any such changes
  • Supervise the general care, maintenance and upkeep of the Club facilities, and ensure that ongoing preventive maintenance programs are in effect
  • Delegate appropriate authority to department heads, yet remain responsible for all operations of PVGC making any changes deemed necessary for successful operations
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and, where appropriate, the various committees; ensure proper minutes are maintained for all Board and committee meetings.
  • Ensure PVGC operates in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws including but not limited to positive relations with the police, fire, liquor control board, health department and other governmental agencies
  • Further personal professional development through participation in appropriate Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) seminars and conferences and others as approved by the Board; establish and maintain memberships in any relevant networking associations
  • Participate in relevant outside activities as approved by the Board to enhance the prestige of the Club and to broaden the scope of the Club's operation by fulfilling its obligations as a participating member of the community
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Club expectations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Board of Directors

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal communication, organizational, and follow-through skills
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small and large group situations to Members, guests, clients, and fellow staff
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and POS systems
  • Proficient math skills
  • Dynamic outgoing personality; articulate, friendly, punctual, and proactive
  • Comfortable leading a team in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of client services, professionalism, and attention to detail; professional appearance appropriate for a premier country club
  • Ability to handle Member/guest complaints and disputes and resolve them to satisfactory results
  • Basic knowledge of liquor and public entertainment licenses

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Minimum ten years' related experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality or related field preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience in hospitality industry required; country club experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of golf course operations and the game of golf and its rules and terminology
