Litigation Paralegal needed ASAP

Responsibilities include:

· Organizes, monitors, and updates hard copy and electronic case files, including correspondences, pleadings, discovery materials, deposition transcripts and exhibits, hearing transcripts, pre-trial and trial exhibits, and briefs;

· Searches for and retrieves case-related documents;

· Cite-check, bluebook, quote-check, and proofread documents, including motions, briefs, testimonies, law review articles, public education and other advocacy information;

· Assist attorneys with admissions to federal and state courts;

· Files and serves court documents, including ECF filings;

· Conducts Lexis, Westlaw, Concordance, other legal database research, and fact research, as directed;

· Gathers and organizes exhibits required for court filings, hearings, depositions, client meetings, and conferences;

· Coordinates with staff, court reporters, printers, and vendors regarding transcription services, printing, scanning, and duplication of documents;

· Coordinates with attorneys, clients, the IT Department, and vendors regarding the retrieval, processing, review, and production of documents, including electronically stored information;

· Reviews production and case files for responsiveness in preparation for discovery responses;

· Screens and organizes requests for legal assistance, as directed;

· Assists attorneys at hearings, oral arguments, depositions, and trials;

· Assists attorneys with communications with clients, class members, and interested community stakeholders regarding LDF advocacy matters;

· Provides other myriad support to attorneys in their litigation and other advocacy matters; and

· Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications include:

· Commitment to racial justice and civil rights;

· A college degree with relevant work experience; paralegal legal experience is preferred;

· Excellent oral and written communication skills;

· Excellent computer skills—familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, and database systems a plus;

· Experience preferred using the Bluebook, the Chicago Manual of Style, Lexis-Nexis, and Westlaw;

· Experience preferred using the federal Electronic Case Management System and PACER;

· Strong research, writing, and analytical skills;

· Willingness to learn and develop new skills and expertise;

· Excellent organizational skills;

· Accuracy and attention to detail;

· Ability to work independently and with a team;

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly-stressful environment;

· Ability to prioritize workload;

· Ability to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner;

· Willingness to work overtime, including occasional weekends;

· High motivation; and

· Willingness to travel.
