Business Analyst

 

Position Summary

Understand and analyze the business objectives, processes, and systems for the assigned internal customer departments, in order to identify and implement improvements that will make those customer departments more efficient and effective in accomplishing the Company’s business goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with assigned internal customer departments. Be their translator and advocate to all other Information Technology functions.
  • Understand vendor roadmaps and competing solutions from the perspective of timing, functionality, and requirements gaps.
  • Manage upgrade projects in coordination with the Application Analyst and Project Manager.
  • Interview and obtain formal and informal feedback from members of the assigned customer departments.
  • Analyze and document processes and systems to determine how they might operate more effectively, including working towards continuous improvement.
  • Identify and document ‘pain points’ and inefficiencies that can be resolved through the use of properly applied technology and processes.
  • Clearly document and gain agreement on requirements.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations, including requests for information and proposals, demonstrations, gap analysis, etc.
  • Contribute to project execution and documentation, including project plans, timelines, communication plans, and test scripts.
  • Organize, create, and deliver training materials and classes for all levels of the assigned customer departments and other members of Information Technology.
  • Work closely with each of the other groups in Information Technology to provide the best possible application delivery and support to the assigned internal customer departments.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities during off-hours, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, Licensure

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science or a related field of study; or
    • Two (2) years of experience providing direct support to end users of applications, help desk or other; or
    • Two (2) years of experience in the business of the assigned customer departments with a strong bent towards technology.

Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or field of study related to an assigned customer department; or
  • Four (4) years of direct experience with both the business and applications of the assigned customer departments.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with all levels, from staff to executive, in verbal and written form with both non-technical users and technical Information Technology functions and vendor teams.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and drive to solutions that improve assigned departments’ contribution to the Company’s success.

  • Ability to thoroughly learn applications and their uses and benefits, from the viewpoints of all levels of the customer departments.
  • Basic understanding computer equipment and peripherals.

  • Strategic Skills: Identify opportunities and threats based upon a thorough analysis of current and future trends.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Functions as an individual contributor with no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires regular use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and communication systems.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional field location visits may present more strenuous exertion than office work, like walking around a field location and interacting with the user community located there.

Travel Requirements

Minimal travel may be required to other locations.
