PACE Center for Independent Living is looking for a Deaf Services Coordinator part-time (25hr/week, $13/hour). For the candidate who is the right fit ,with education and experience that closely match the position, there is a possibility of full time. The Coordinator works with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. They advocate for accessibility showing local services/businesses how to serve deaf and hard of hearing consumers and informing people of their rights and responsibilities. The Coordinator also consults on making homes accessible and learning about or finding assistive technology, give information, make referrals, teaches skills, peer counseling and youth transition. They also work with a deaf advisory committee to set up subjects the deaf community chooses as interpreted workshops. This job requires; the ability to establish/maintain strong and positive relationships with the Deaf Community by attending Illinois Association of the Deaf local chapter meetings, and other deaf and hard of hearing events as a helpful and involved PACE representative. The Coordinator must keep accurate documentation of activities and reporting goals set and met by consumers. Qualified candidates for this position must be knowledgeable in American Sign Language (ASL) have experience with the deaf community and be able to communicate with people who use different methods. To apply you must have access to a vehicle to cover a five-county service area and have a commitment to the deaf and hard of hearing community to assure independence for people with disabilities. Must either know or be willing to learn Independent Living Philosophy and pass it along to those we serve.
