Deaf Services Coordinator- Part Time

PACE Center for Independent Living is hiring a part-time (25hr/week, $13/hour) Deaf Services Coordinator. This position works with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals to assist with developing advocacy skills, taking on efforts to advocate for systems being accessible, educating local services/businesses about how to serve deaf and hard of hearing consumers, making homes accessible and providing information and skills training, peer counseling and youth transition. This job requires; the ability to establish/maintain strong and positive relationships with the Deaf Community by attending Illinois Association of the Deaf local chapter meetings, and other deaf and hard of hearing events as a helpful and involved PACE representative. This while keeping accurate documentation of activities and reporting goals attained. Qualified candidates for this position must; be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and able to teach it to hearing community members. The applicants must have access to a vehicle to cover a five-county service area, and have a commitment to facilitating the efforts of the deaf and hard of hearing community to assure independence for people with disabilities. Must either know or be willing to learn Independent Living Philosophy and pass it along to those we serve.
